Sharp Kitchen Knives
This unit is very well-made and easy to use. I have tried the cheaper version of knife sharpeners with little success. The model that includes all the stones is the way to go. I am very pleased with the knives I have sharpened and so is my wife. I recently have started to learn how to smoke meat and without good sharp knives, it is frustrating to prepare the meat for smoking with dull knives.

Top quality for the price
Excellent sharpener. With all of the different "stones" that come with it, no knife is a match for this machine. I used this on two pocket knives and within minutes on each, I was one step away from razor sharp edges. Finished up with my honing stone and now, I can shave with my pocket knives! Top quality machine for the price and, if it ever wears out, I will be buying this one again!

Lots of plastic.
It will sharpen a knife well. But it isn't great, lots of places it will fail if not careful. My biggest concern is the joint on the alignment rod. Also the clamp doesn't work well with thin fillet knives. I don't think I would purchase it again.

Works but Not the best
First, let me say that customer service is great. The first unit I received had issues with the clamp. Not damage from shipping, I think, but just would not hold a knife stable. The replacement unit did better in that aspect but the problem with the whole system is the same. It’s just not very sturdily constructed. I carry a folding pocket knife that most of my friends consider to be large (about a 4” blade). This knife seemed to be too much for the clamp system to hold in place like I think would be necessary for consistency. For a smaller pocket knife, it may work fine. I was not able to get anything as sharp as I would have liked. I also found that the the angle did not stay consistent, possibly due to having to release, flip, and reposition the knife between each stage of sharpening. On a kitchen knife, it was not very effective. Too flimsy. Too inconsistent.I think if you have only small to medium size pocket knives, and some patience, this may work for you, but the system could use improvement.

sharpens knives, but flaws make it inferior to its competitors
It works well once you work through all the flaws. Biggest complaint is that the sharpening arm becomes a loose part once you're done sharpening your knives and need to break down the device for storage. To make matters worse, the sharpening arm is the most fragile part on the device, and it looks to me like it's composed of cheap, composite material that is very likely to break - especially considering you have to remove it for storage. The vice you mount the knife to does not rotate. You need to remove the knife from the vice and flip the knife over each time you sharpen a side. The sharpener itself should have come with a storage case. I appreciate the fact that the sharpening stones came with a case, but there needs to be one that holds everything. FYI, this would not have been a complaint if I could have fit everything back into the original box, but once you assemble this, it no longer fits in the box.
