Doesn’t hold the edge for long
My father is a master chef and swears by sabatier, so when these came up on offer in woot I jumped at the opportunity. They are very beautiful knives, and razor sharp, but I’m shocked how often I have to sharpen them.

Smoothly molded into one piece
Perhaps it's the sign of my age (40), but I am so excited about this set of knives! We've had a set by this same brand for over 10 years, and we were very satisfied with their quality until they recently started simply falling apart (due to their design), so I sought out a new set by this same brand. One thing I absolutely despised about our last set was the knives had multiple pieces put together to form the handle/hold the knife part in place - they kept coming lose, making the knife part wobbly. That's the feature I was specifically looking to upgrade, to find knives that were all molded together as one piece. This set is so perfect because there are no seams or separate parts, and the handles are very ergonomically comfortable. The variety of knives that are included suit our home kitchen perfectly. I'm especially excited about the chopping knife with the shorter, wider blade - this type of knife wasn't included in our last set. The sharpening rod is handy, conveniently easy to store and access (so you'll be more likely to keep your knives sharp!). I'm impressed with the upgraded angled wood block storage - it's angled perfectly as to not hit the bottom of the cabinets, if you choose to store it beneath them on the counter. This block does have a very strong varnish/ wood finish smell to it. While not terribly unpleasant, it's a bit unsettling to have it coming from something that is in contact with food-grade items. That's really my only concern. Otherwise, this knife set is priced appropriately for the quality and attention to detail!

Amazing for the price
It can be hard to choose a set of knives. Do you buy a set like this or pick out individual ones? How much do you want to pay? This, for example, isn't the cheapest set on the market, but it's certainly on the cheaper end when you realize that I also have in my kitchen a single knife that cost a LOT more than this entire set. So it's a question of balancing price and quality. And let me be clear right off: these aren't the best knives in the world. Their balance is not nearly as good as some of my other (more expensive) ones. Their blades don't hold their edge quite as well (and weren't quite as sharp even right out of the box, though I was able to sharpen them up to my standards). However, given that this entire set cost less than most of the single knives I have in my collection, I have to say, it's really an amazing value for the price. They may not be the best in the world, but they're better than other sets I've seen even at double the price. The chef knife (the most important one, I'd argue) is the best of the bunch, but the entire set is attractive, relatively easy to hold (though the balance slows me down a bit on some of them) and gets the job done.I wouldn't recommend these to a professional chef (nor even a high-end home cook), but I would absolutely recommend them as a perfect starter set for anyone on a budget.

Great set of knives at a good price
This set provides a good, useful assortment of knives (including my first Santoku); they're sharp, heavy enough but not too heavy, and feel good in my hand. The block is just big enough to store them all without wasting a lot of space; it would have been nice to have labels on the slots to help get used to the set.The design of the knives in this set are very similar to the Global knives we've been using for the last 20 years. The Sabatier knives are noticeably lighter than the Global knives, but are heavy enough to feel comfortable and let me cut confidently. The Sabatier knives have a full-width handle, unlike the Global knives (see photo) - I think that's an improvement, because I've dinged myself on the corner of the Global blade far too many times.I've only had the set for a few weeks, so it's too early to know how durable they'll be, but the price makes that less of a concern than it might otherwise be. Using the sharpening steel consistently will help keep the knives sharp - and so will washing them by hand and drying them promptly.I'd recommend this as a starter set or second set of knives for almost anyone.

Excellent knife set - everything you need!
The inclusion of the steak knives really did it for me - this set has everything I need for my kitchen. Between the shears, sharpener, chef's knife and paring knife, everything I need on a regular basis is covered. The block is good quality and holds everything very nicely. The one downside is that the instructions say to hand wash only and dry immediately. I've been washing these in the dishwasher and haven't noticed any adverse effects. Maybe I will over time (sharpening more often, perhaps), but at this price, if the set lasts for 2 years I'll feel good about it. However, given what I've seen of them so far, this set should last quite a bit longer than that. These are outperforming a Cuisinart set that was over $100, and there are more knives included (namely the steak knives).
