You don't have to spend a fortune to get sound quality.
I've got my Mac computer with the top of the range desk top sound system and wanted speakers that I could easily move around the house so I could use my devices with enhanced sound quality. I looked at my usual named brands and then the price, ยฃ180 for speaker!! I then found the Gear4 Xome Wireless speaker and was amazed. I thought for the price it was going to sound tinny with little bass. How wrong was I. I got it out of the box and plugged it in, and within seconds it was paired with my iPad and was playing my music. The sound quality was unbelievable for the price, being crystal clear with plenty of bass. The controls are so easy to use. I was able to switch from one app to another, with the sound just fading away to the next one. The bluetooth range is the best I have had on any device so far. As it says, it has a range of 10 metres and actually left my house with my iPad before the sound started to break up. The size of the speaker is perfect for the window sill or on top of any chest of draws. I now can watch all my TV programmes on my iPad anywhere in the house knowing that I have a great sound system to go with them. Save yourself ยฃ110 and buy this speaker, you will be amazed at the sound quality for the price.

Xome for the Home
I was kindly supplied this item free of charge to test and evaluate. In exchange, I agreed to provide an honest review detailing my thoughts:Starting from the box; the Gear4 Xome looked quite big, but once taken out it's fortress of a box it unveils a pretty and petite speaker. Within the box, it contains the speaker itself, a manual and a power adapter with 4 changeable heads: UK, EU, US and AU. This was a surprise as I had never seen such diversity with a A/C adapter before and they changeable heads was a really great design.Once powered up and connected to my audible Bluetooth device I started off by playing some Tom Odell, the sound wasn't overwhelming but welcoming. The projected sound sat more comfortably on the higher treble scale, once I moved on to some heavier songs from Biffy Clyro the bass tones struggled to keep up. However, it worked great with artists such as Elbow, Lucy Rose, Dry The River, Bon Iver and Of Monsters and Men. Depending on your taste of music I would say the Xome would better suited for the fans of Folk/Pop/Rock/Indie and generally lighter artists but would struggle a bit with heavy metal and drum and bass. The volume is plenty loud and can even be heard from the next room. Perfectly suited for small to medium rooms, but be warned; at max volume you can hear slight rattling when up close to the device but isn't noticeable from over 1-2 metres away. The design of the speaker looks great and would fit comfortably in any home environment. It has playback and volume buttons on the top of the device and has a sturdy feel to it, as well as an appealing metallic dust cover with a quilted design. There is easy access to the power supply from the back as well as an 3.5mm Aux-In input. Due to the sheer size of it, I'd say it fits perfectly on the kitchen windowsill or counter.Overall the Xome is a well built, aesthetically pleasing home speaker with clear comfortable sound that suffers slightly with heavier and bassier genres. Due to the size and the projected volume it would be best suited for smaller kitchens and bedrooms, but could easily get away with medium sized rooms.

Broken after less than 12 months .. avoid!
I bought this product less than a year ago. The sound is okay but lacks depth and volume .. I would expect alot more power for a speaker which is wired to the mains! Worse still, I plugged it in today and found the power input has developed a faulty connection, and it hasn't even been used for the last six months. Pretty much unuseable now.

Nice product, but its not wireless! It has to be plugged into the mains to work. I sent mine back and got a Bolse C1 which is a fantastic product

It's a decent size, decent sound but not great range when I move it to the next room - keep losing connection :(

As small as a bag of sugar, and just as sweet!
I got this as I wanted a stereo that was small enough to fit in my kitchen but packed a big enough punch so that I could enjoy my music whilst doing the dishes. There are endless amount of boombox's and speakers that could do the job, but one that is small enough to fit on the windowsill and still be loud / clear enough is the challenge. I came across this snazzy little thing and after reading a bit about it, decided to give it a go.When the box arrived, I thought "oh dear, this is much bigger than I wanted" but when I opened the box, I found that the speaker was half the size of the box it came in, phew! Inside the box you get the speaker and the transformer (with adaptors for UK/EU/US/ANZ)I found the speaker very light to pick up which is usually a bad sign of cheap plastic parts but I was not going to condemn the speaker just yet. The design is pretty cool with the criss-cross shape on the grill and once powered up, you get a red light at the front which remains on when in use. The speaker itself is no bigger than a bag of sugar which makes it ideal for small spaces. It is very simple to set up, just power on the mains, flip the switch on the back of the speaker and your ready to go. All you need to do then is turn on your bluetooth on your mobile device (I used my Galaxy S3), pair to the Xome and press play on your music app. When I started playing my music, I cranked up the volume as far as it would go and found that it wasn't very loud at all, then I noticed that the volume on my phone was not turned up, once I turned that up, BOOM! The volume was certainly loud enough. The sound is pretty damn good to be fair, the sound is clear and enough bass to give it that pumping sound we all love. One really annoying thing though is that when you change the volume on the Xome, the music momentarily stops and you get a beep sound to acknowledge that you have successfully pressed the button. Pointless and very annoying! One other thing I noticed is that the levels in volume did drop and rise sporadically during playback on one or two of the songs I heard. My phone was next to the Xome at the time so that could have been some sort of interference, it hasn't happened since though as I have kept my phone in my pocket or on the table away from the Xome.Overall, it is everything that I wanted from my wireless home speaker. Good, clear sound with deep bass and small enough to fit on the windowsill.
