I believe that the writings are ancient runic symbols, the 5 points on the Pentacle represent, Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit. There are other symbols that represent various deities. Hope thus helps out.

No it is not quite the contrary. It is the symbol for the 5 ethereal element, earth water fire air and heaven. As the upright pentacle it is a pagan symbol which, is nothing to do with Devil worship.

Q: What material is the pendant on? Rope or Leather?

I believe it came with a rope. I personally would steer clear of this item as it is poorly made, the mock silver plate comes off very quickly and leaves it looking black. I had to take mine off on the instructions of my Doctor as I was getting metal poisoning. Not worth the money.
