In those days, the rich industrials from New York had a country residence in the beautiful natural park Adirondack. In the summertime they came here with their families to enjoy the countryside. In the wintertime their staff didn’t have many jobs to do, so in the winter of 1929 some carpenters designed the adirondack chair. The name of the area, became the name of the chair. Material Our original Adirondack chair has a curved backrest that is made from 7 wood compartments (7 slat back) and is made out of mahogany. Especially for the European market, many Adirondack chairs are made out of cedar or even impregnated spruce wood. Unfortunately, these types of wood are not strong enough for the construction of the Adirondack chair.   Our SGS-certified mahogany wood is one of the most sustainable kind of wood that exists.
