Dicken's Oliver Twist...
Charles Dicken's popular novel "Oliver Twist" about the difficult life of a young English orphan has been the subject of several theater and movie adaptations. Here it gets the translation to graphic novel format, courtesy of Campfire Classics, adapter Dan Johnson, and illustrator Rajesh Nagulakonda. As the story opens, the young Oliver Twist is pushed from a rather grim orphanage to an even grimmer workhouse because he has reached the age of nine. At the workhouse, a starving Oliver dares to ask for more food, and is promptly banished into an apprenticeship with a local mortician. When he is beaten by his master, Oliver will run away to London. There, he falls into bad company with a group of young pickpockets led by the evil Fagin and the vicious Bill Sikes. A burglary gone wrong leaves the wounded Oliver in the care of a kind family, but an even worse fate may be reaching out for him. A mysterious man will plot with Fagin and Sikes to pull the naive Oliver back into a life of crime. What can possibly be the twisted and evil motive of the stranger?"Oliver Twist" was originally published in serialized form, and its episodic nature is readily apparent in the graphic novel, as Oliver's life lurches from near disaster to temporary salvation and back again. The plot and the ending rely on a series of dramatic twists of fate that were quite popular in Dicken's day. The basic story is still quite good, and recommended in graphic novel format.

I'm not sure what I thought this graphic novel would be like but it's pretty ok. I have read better comics.

Great introduction to Charles Dickens
I bought this graphic book to read to my grandkids, and they were enthralled. It was fun for them to see the images as I read them the story.
