Spear and Jackson 5 Star service
Had a problem with two tines that bent. Contacted customer service and replacement received within a couple of days. One of a few companies that stand behind their guarantee without feeble excuses.10/10 Spear and Jackson. You've just won a long term customer!

Almost Neverbend
This is a sturdy fork - but I think that "Neverbend" is a bit of a misleading comment. I tried to dig out a thick root with it and it did bend one of the tines, but I was pushing very hard and it was probably too much of a root for a fork to handle. However, as the bend was only slight, and ultimately it is a garden tool so doesn't need to stay in perfect condition for ever I decided to keep going with it rather than send it back, which has been a good decision because everything else it has managed without fault. The coating is very easy to clean off and even with the slight bend didn't break, so that protection is preserved. In summary: Not invulnerable, but much stronger than a cheap fork. I should imagine it will be 10 years before I feel like replacing this.UPDATE April 2015: The fork has met its end. Just some normal digging in the allotment resulted in the handle snapping clean in half. In total it lasted for about 2.5 years and was always stored in a dry shed. You can see the metal is in good condition! Time to find out how good the 10 year guarantee really is...UPDATE July 2015: I can hardly believe it - the guarantee worked. Contacted Spear & Jackson, sent the photo of the broken fork and then one turned up at our house a week later.

Mis-Named for sure
Used this to get under some tough bushes with some established roots … nothing major to be honest but i couldn’t believe how easily this deformed … the handle snapping i wasn’t surprised as the wood look cheap and poor quality to being with but the metal deforming did surprise me

Disappointing
I have a Spear and Jackson border fork, which is well over 50 years old and looks as if it could go on for another 50. On the basis of previous experience with the brand and various positive online reviews, I ordered this model to replace a stainless steel one which had snapped after 20 years of steady digging. My first impression when I removed it from its box was “it’s heavy”. I used it for a little while and found it slightly awkward to handle and definitely heavy, much more so than its replacement, or any of my full size spades.Today I needed to remove a couple of plants. One was a clump of Iris, which had got too big for its space; the fork dealt with this OK. I then moved on to a rose root, which had been cut down because of persistent disease. This proved too much for the so called “ Never Bend Professional”. I now have a fork with one tine permanently out of line with the other three, as can be seen in the picture. I should add that I am not a 20 stone body builder, just an old bloke of average weight and height, so not capable of exerting massive force on the fork. Fortunately my 35 year old spade was more than equal to the task. These forks are clearly not made to the same high specification as they were several decades ago, when, I believe, they were produced in Sheffield. I cannot recommend this particular fork.

TOP!
