Guts & Glory: World War II (Guts & Glory, 3)

The book is a neat little collection of historical events that took place to people (99% from the Allied side) involved in WWII combat. It reveals nothing new about these events, history being history, and the photos have all been seen numerous times. But, this book is not aimed at the "historian" out there who has probably got a collection of many such books with this information. It is aimed at a teen-age student who has had their high school history curriculum shredded by boards of eduction, administrators, and teachers who were all born decades AFTER WWII and are not all that cognizant of the facts themselves! (Why this has happened would take too much time and is out of the scope of this review.) To a teenager and an adult who now wishes he or she had paid more attention in class, this book is right on target, and I highly recommend this book to any person with such curiosity and desire to learn what is needed from the past, so as not to repeat it. That is not a philosophical idea anymore! Discuss current events with any person over 50 years old to see what is happening. Till then, get this book and read it. The author has a series of such books that is growing regularly. One minor complaint about the writing is the idiom of the narrative...using the vernacular of a teenager today! That may be "awesome" and work for the teen and twenty-something millennial, but is is awkward for my 60+ year old eyes of a retired history teacher! That should not be an excuse for you to not buy this book for any kid, or yourself! Great holiday gift...and at a great price. Great service from Amazon.smile, as always,too.

Got this for my little brother's birthday, and he loves it. He's always been fascinated with World War II. This book is perfect for kids and even has information that I was never taught in school. My grandpa even started reading it at the birthday party! I think this this is a great book for all ages!

We bought this book for our third grader. History with a great touch of humor and so interesting, he is learning so much. He loves it and the other books in the series.

My son is on a WW2 history kick so we picked this up for him to read since he's not quite ready to dig into my history book library. My son is 11 and so far he loves the book (hasn't finished it yet). I haven't read this book so I cannot comment on it's content specifically but he is enjoying the read and learning.

This books is great! I will order more from the Guts & Glory series. Even more we enjoy the Audio version because the sound effects keep it exciting. My only complaint is that it doesn't sync with the Audio books like most other books do, so I find myself having to flip through both to keep my son on track of the chapters we read and the chapters we listened to as a family. My husband and other kids have enjoyed hearing it too

This book was amazing. I purchased it for my 6th graders, but I just stayed up until midnight reading it all in a day. I loved how it hit the high points of the war and highlighted heroic and amazing men AND women. I also appreciated the comparisons of aircraft, tanks, and boats at the end of each chapter. It was inspiring, made me laugh, and I couldn't stop reading. I can't wait to share it with my students!

I purchased the set for my 11 year old grandson who loves history. He thought the books were very interesting and didn't need to be encouraged to read this summer.

Fabulous book! My son loves the whole series and when a nine year old boy can’t put down a history book- you know it’s a winner!!!!! (PS it’s also an interesting and entertaining book for parents!!!)
