Doug Garner comes through
A lot of us familiar with Doug Garner's expertise have been waiting for years and years for him to finally get to do the book he wanted to do on the Highlands. As expected, he's produced a simply terrific photo book packed with information and details only he would know and that rarity--captions which go beyond just describing the photos to bring them to life and offer rich background information. It's all done with style and verve and for dessert he throws in West End Heights, Suburban Garden, Westlake Park and Chain of Rocks Fun Fair. I have waited all my life to see photos of Suburban Garden, as I grew up a five minute walk from the place, or what little was left of it. Arcadia has come a long way from its early efforts and this book will sell big with anyone who loves St. Louis history, amusement parks, roller coasters or quality bookmaking. Congratulations, Doug!

St Louis Memories
If you are a St. Louis area resident or visitor of a certain age this is a nostalgic read. The Forest Park Highlands amusement park burned during the mid-sixties but to those of us who remember the Comet this is a lovely trip down memory lane. The photos, though mainly in black and white, are a catalyst to recall many stories of summer adventures in this very urban park.

For those who grew up going to the Forest park highlands, this book will really mean a lot
My mom grew up in this area. I have heard her talk about the FP highlands since I was a kid. I surprised her with it and this means the world to her. The pictures alone are total nostalgia. If anyone in your family or friend had experiences with this, I think it will have that same meaning. My mom's face lights up when she talks about it; this is a coffee table book for her

The Highlands
Loved this book but -full disclosure- I grew up in St. Louis and have many fond memories of the Highlands. Thanks to the author for bringing me back to my childhood

Great gift!
I bought this book for my parents, who grew up going to the Forest Park Highlands. I haven't read it myself, but they were totally delighted with this book. It has many photos that they loved looking at, hoping to see themselves in one!

I am 12 years old again
I grew up going to the Highlands in school picnics. It was great to relive those memories. There was no much history of the park that I didn't know.
