Do the job I bought them for!
I have had tools from Rolson in the past, and knowing they are good value for money, I decided to get these. It's a good pair of strips, and makes my life so much easier than when I used to go round with a pair of clapped out electricians pliers! The grips are good on them, The blades are very sharp, and the mechanism grabs a good hold of the wire before stripping it.My only moan would be that occasionally they get stuck, as the cutting surface is flush against the frame. This isn't really a problem for me as I have loads of WD40 to hand, but bear this in mind as it might just be the minor source of frustration I sometimes have working up a 10ft ladder!Generally a good tool, and I can't complain as their very easy to use and good value.

Good Quality at Low Cost
I was looking for a wire stripper for stripping very small cables on electronic and instrumentation quality cables, I possess several makes of cable strippers, but on very small stranded cables they tend to snap strands of the cable and on solid core cable they tend to slightly nick the cable at the point of stripping, this is due to the technique employed by the stripper in removing the insulation. Most cable strippers grip the complete cable to be stripped in the entry jaws then when the stripper is operated the blade clamps the insulation to be removed and in doing so grips the conductor cables at the same time. Unfortunately when the insulation is pulled from the cable it usually removes a strand or two and on solid core it tends to nick the cable. This Rolson cable stripper grips the complete cable in the entry jaws, but differs in that there are a series of holes ranging from 0.5 to 3.2mm that will cater for the usual cable sizes, you select the correct size for the cable you are stripping and when the stripper is operated the tool only removes the required insulation without removing any of the cores of the stranded cable or damaging any solid core cable. The tool works 100% every time without damaging the cable cores at all, however the stripper is described as an automatic cable stripper and up to now I have not managed to work out how to set the stripping length, but this does not matter to me as what is important is the clean undamaged stripped cable end for correct termination without any loss of cores or damage to single cores, a first rate tool and highly recommended.

Average
Does strip cable. Will kink the end slightly as the clamp and jaws aren't aligned properly .I used to have the "Ideal" brand ,which are very good .Maybe one day I will pick up a new pair of those .These , assigned to , when I can't find any other Stripper ,strippers,

Fast, efficient cutting and stripping.
In spite of the item being titled "wire striper", this won't make your wire stripey, it's a stripper.I make a lot of circuits up on breadboards so need to make quite a few jumper wires and I must have done about 120 so far of different lengths with no problem.I notice a couple of reviewers writing things like "Strange add-on included with no instructions".Well, the big letters spelling out the sentence "Adjustable stripping length guide provides consistency" right on the front of the packaging give a clue - there's 1 screw, one hole the screw fits in, and an angular shaped piece of metal with a slot the same width as the screw. I'm fairly certain that if working out what goes where is that much of a challenge, then messing with electrical things might not be the best choice of activity for the user. For everyone else though, this is a good value bit of kit that'll satisfy all your small-wire stripping needs.

Curious problem with this design.
I own three sets of wire strippers, one is this Rolson stripper, the other two are identical and made by Stripmaster (Standard Stripmaster RS 542-3357). Mechanically the Rolson and Stripmaster stippers are identical however, whereas the Stripmaster strippers work perfectly, the Rolson ones don't. Let me try to explain. When you look at each side of the strippers, one side holds the wire and the other side cuts off the insulation. The Stripmaster strippers hold the wire inline with the cutting side, which leads to no distortion of the wire. The result is a nice clean cut.The Rolson doesn't have the wire holder side in line with the insulation stripping side and so manages to bend the wire as it strips it, resulting in a distored and marked wire when completed. This is a very subtle difference in the manufacturing process of each stripper but it mades a significant difference to the final result. I haven't managed to find a way of resolving this issue with the Rolson, so I recommend buying the Stripmaster model instead.By the way, Stripmaster sell some models at very high prices but there are cheaper models, which is why I've given the full part number above. The cost of my Stripmasters, if you look around, was £12.50 (in July 2020). Try searching for "AUTOMATIC WIRE STRIPPER STRIPMASTER".

Takes the pain out of wire stripping
This style of strippers makes what can be a tedious job a doddle. No messing about with altering jaw sizes and no pulling wires, just choose your diameter and pull the trigger. I had an identical product from a big name brand which failed after about ten years of light to moderate use. Bought this to replace it and was a bit wary about the very cheap price. The action is as deliberate as my previous one so far. Very happy

Stripping has become easier...
As a youngster I had the original patented version of these. American made if I remember, from the sixties. I guess the patent expired and it's a free for all. They certainly work as expected and only docking one star as the quality isn't like my original. That said the originals weren't six quid and things were made to last in the olden days. Some reviewers have found the grab not grabbing, but nothing wrong with my pair. In any case Amazon are the most welcoming company to return items to, if there is a problem.Edit: Since writing the review I've found my originals. Perhaps they're worth something! Comparison pictures duly attached.
