Good for a kids movie, but...
The true story was much darker than this. And since the movie was only about how he thought of Peter Pan, they made it like that's all wrote. It wasn't really that accurate from a true story documentary stand point. A lot of his life story was censored and simplified for children's appeal. In his actual life story wrote about a baby named flying called "The Little White Bird" sometime before "Peter Pan". This movie skipped and cut out that book and had him write Peter Pan much sooner in his life then he actually did in real life. The movie basically had him write Peter Pan even before when he was supposed to be write The Little White Bird. Also, in real life, JM Barrie's favorite Davies child was Michael not Peter. But because the focus of the movie was on how he made Peter Pan, the writers made Peter be his favorite, when that's not how it was in real life.Anyways, that's about all I can say about this movie. There's more I want to say, but I don't know how it say such without drawing up controversy. It's good for kids, but not for anything historical as it's not even accurate to the true story (25% at most maybe, but no more than that). That's all.

The story behind Peter Pan
This movie captured my interest from the first. Johnny Deep excels at playing complex characters. The wife had a difficult role and played it well. Kate Winslet is always a pleasure to watch and Julie Christie was a surprise as her mother. She made her role believable. The children were adorable as only good children can be.It was a glimpse into a world that is now gone. It also shows how the creative mind takes bits and pieces of experiences and turns it into something as enchanting and unique as Peter Pan. The inspiration to bring in 25 orphans and scatter them in the audience was sheer genius. This is a lovely movie. I will watch it again to pick up nuances I missed the first time.

Enjoyable when it came out and enjoyable still!
Enjoyable when it came out and enjoyable still! I really liked all the actors, and everyone seemed very realistic to me. Dustin Hoffman's small role was hilarious. Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet are always amazing. Everyone did a fantastic job, and I loved this movie. As for characters, real life people though they may be, I didn't like his wife, at least not how she was depicted in this film. She was not only selfish, but extra terrible to try and act like her actions were justified! He wasn't perfect, but that does not warrant another to do something wrong. Anyway, I think if you love Peter Pan, or simply would like to know a small history about the writer/playwright behind the story, then I recommend this one wholeheartedly.

" is one of my favorite movie lines
"Dying issn awfully big adventure!" is one of my favorite movie lines. This movie has an unexpected death of the mother,Kate Winslet,r of four boys so the grief is lightened when she goes to lighthearted Neverland,a place that Sir James Barrie played by Johnny Depp, wrote in his Peter Pan strory about the" lo,st boys. This famous story incorporated Mr.Barrie's observance of the Davies Family during the time he spent with them during the time before Syliva Luellen Davies died of lung cancer and the learning adventures they had together. Mr. Barrie wife left him as a result of daily time spent with the boys" & their mother, the so called muse. Julie Christy played the part of the boys grandmother & played an important part of needing to help the Davies family survive thru the confusing time of wanting to help her daughter's family after the recent death of the boy's father. This movie filled in many unknown facts about the famous story of Peter Pan!

Finding Neverland
The movie tells the story behind the idea and creative birth pangs of Neverland as it was developed into the hit play "Peter Pan." I was expecting a light-hearted movie, but this movie involves emotional heartache, betrayal and struggle; as well as discovering love, finding inspiration, and never giving up. As an actor, Johnny Depp knows how to portray his character to the fullest, and he did it again in this movie. Not a fast-paced movie, yet it was a good movie that kept my interest right to the end!

Finest movie Depp ever made.
This is a shining example of what can be done in the telling of a story. It is a story of the writing, by J. M. Barrie, of Peter Pan. We see the external causes - the people and the situations and the events - that shape the timeless of story of the boy who never grew up. And we share the growth, the thought, and the feelings of those directly involved. Add to the story and the excellent acting (watch the little boy, Peter, especially - formidable in one so very young), the most touching and serene musical score. Be prepared to be lifted out of this world into one not so long ago. And be ready to find Neverland.

Good Movie.
This was quite a good movie. I was actually surprised. Johnny Depp did a great job in this film. I had a hard time believing it was him. Such a different side compared to his role in Pirates of the Caribbean. Sometimes the dresses are a little low. There is one section towards the beginning of the movie where parents may not like how the play was referred to by Depp when he asked a question of another man (it was more as a euphemism), other than that there was no bad language and it was kept quite clean. I think families would enjoy watching it. Had some good lessons.

Imagination Shines Through in this Film
This movie is so sweet. It kept showing up in a recommendation list, and I kept passing it over because the cover image with Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet looked saccharine. Now that I've watched (more than once) I'm in love with the movie! It's an imagination heaven based on J.M. Barrie's life, author of Peter Pan. My favorite quote, "You see, Wendy, when the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies."

a real treasure of a movie...
Great little film, very gentle and slow moving, but it is enjoyable all the same, a real treasure of a movie. I would also like to say that Johnny Depp does a perfect regional Scottish accent in this movie, its not a generic stage Scotsman like Simon Pegg as Scotty in Star Trek, on the contrary, Mr Depp manages to deliver his lines in a totally convincing soft Scottish lilt that evokes a East Coast/Edinburgh accent that J M Barrie most likely had, so as a born and bred Scottish person myself I would say hats off to Johnny Depp for sounding accurate and convincing as the Scottish writer and creator of Peter Pan.

Excellent film Good family viewing.
I watched this film years ago and thought it only reasonably good. Then I watched again recently and changed my mind drastically, it is one of the finest films I have seen in a while, Johnny Depp of course plays a wonderful part, as does Kate Winslet. Although the events in the film are largely true, a little artistic license has been taken as to the chronological timing. This does not detract one bit from the wonderful filming of arguably one of our best children's authors, enabling us all to never forget to pander to our own inner child occasionally. Excellent film, well worth watching.

Asks questions.
Saw the movie on TV and it's well done, so bought the DVD from Amazon.I like the understated performances, especially from Johnny Depp he reallyis excellent. But of course the film touches on but skirts around the realissues. I will not mention them here, it's not appropriate. But there aremoments of pure magic in this lovely movie, it's worth having and not leastof course because of the wonderful Freddie Highmore as the young JMB

The wonderful J M Barry.
'Finding Neverland' is about the life of J.M. Barry who wrote Peter Pan. His life has plenty of up's & down's, yet his skill in writing for children of all ages never ceases to amaze me. This movie is a tale of love; devotion and understanding, culminating in a tear-jerking ending scene that lives on after the movie is over. Johnny Depp is superb as J m Barry. It's a must see movie. '...If you believe in fairies clap your hands...'

Depp and Winslet at their Beautiful Best
Only bought this film on the back of other reviews read on the web and thank god I did. This film is a little gem with great characterisation and a storyline that drifts you gently through a story you thought you knew all about until now.Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet are at their masterful best in exploring the intimate pieces of this story and the children are a delight. If you enjoy curling up with friend/family or a bottle of wine and popcorn this is the film for you, but if you need all action and loose concentration easily leave this lovely film alone. As far as Bluray is concerned I enjoyed the crispness of the picture and I am sure the added quality helped the experience but I don't think this is a film that particularly shows off the full effect of Bluray, but at under £10.00 I would still invest in the better quality.

Perfect Scottish accent
It's a lovely story and well acted by the cast -especially Freddie Highmore who played the young son of "Sylvia Llewelyn Davies" (played by Kate Winslet). He was around 12 years of age when the film was made (although he looks much younger) and he superbly portrayed the role of a grief stricken child mourning the loss of his father. If I didn't know that Johnny Depp is American, I'd be certain that he's Scottish; his accent is spot on.

Johnny Depp in Neverland!
I just watched Finding Neverland and wanted to say to everyone - if you haven't yet seen this movie - watch it! It is the best movie I have seen in ages and I was in love with the film right from the start. The world of make believe created in this movie is just extraordinary and the cast was superb. Johnny Depp (as always) was perfect in his role, quirky but not too much, loving but not overly and childlike yet remaining adult. Kate Winslet was beautiful and adorable and the children were just brilliant. I laughed, I cried, I grinned and got completely lost in the world of J.M. Barrie. An outstanding movie and one to put on my favourite movies list. I cannot believe I missed this one until now!!

"I Believe In Fairies"
I bought this movie, knowing very little about it. I knew it was about J M Barrie and I knew it had Depp and Winslet. Depp and Winslet seemed enough reason to buy it alone, along with all the hype. I was blown away! After it arrived, I wasn't so sure if I should have bought such an impulse, but after ten minutes I was lost to the world!I don't think it matters at all if you were a Peter Pan fan, I certainly wasn't. This movie spoke to me as it would to everyone, it's about escapism, about Neverland. It's about one man's struggle to be inspired, and he finds it, and this in itself, to me, is inspirational and is what made the movie beautiful. The whole movie is a masterpiece, don't let anyone tell you any different. If they didn't like it, they had their reasons. I should imagine it's not to everyone's tastes. This is one you have to judge for yourself.Enjoy and be astounded. With regards to the DVD, the special features are actually quite good and it's worth the however much extra for them (if you're a fan of the movie).

Possibly my FAVOURITE film OF ALL TIME!!!!
Apart from the obvious fact that Johnny Depp is both the Worlds most talented actor and the best looking, this film is also fantastic. The storyline is beautifully written, the actors are all fantastic, the young boys are simply incredible! This film is full of magic and love and is a truly heartwarming story. It made me bothlaugh and cry. It makes me want to fullfill my dream of being an author. The story has already been summed up in the amazon review, but to really know the story you must see this film, there is so much more to it.Put simply this film is fantastic, everyone of all ages should see it.

Finding Kleenex
I wasn't sure what to expect of this film - I knew it had had rave reviews but wasn't sure of the content. I have to say that I wasn't expecting to be as deeply moved as I was. Johnny Depp, as ever, is faultless and plays such a different role to his Captain Sparrow in Pirates of the Carribean that it's a masterclass in acting. Kate Winslet compliments him perfectly though perhaps top honours should go to the little lad playing Peter (Freddie Highmore). What is most to the film's credit is that it manages to confront adult themes of loss and mortality with childhood innocence and playfulness. It must have been so difficult in these cynical times to leave no hint that J.M. Barrie had anything but completely innocent love of these children (consider Michael Jackson's trial) and yet you do absolutely and fully believe that there was nothing untoward going on here and that it's you with the problem if you think otherwise. The result is an endearing study of the warmth of humanity of J.M., his grasp on the harsh realities of life but his denial that that is all there is. Finding Neverland takes us to a place in ourselves that we vaguely remember from lost childhoods, and whilst never slipping into overwrought sentimentality, makes us all a little bit stronger knowing that place is there.

Simply enchanting!
It's not often you stumble across a film like Finding Neverland, completely enchanting and magical. The story of JM Barrie and his writing of Peter Pan, this film is a delight to watch. Johnny Depp is wonderful as James Barrie and demonstrates what a diverse acting spectrum he has. Kate Winslet is super as Sylvia. A fabulous film - perfect for a cold sunday afternoon and one i will watch again and again, especially when in need of inspriation and enchantment.
