GIS Tutorial 1 for ArcGIS Pro: A Platform Workbook (GIS Tutorials)

A fantastic book to learn or brush up on your GIS Skills
Already having a Technical Certificate in GIS and having had used these previous authors' ArcGIS 10 tutorial books for my classes, I bought this book to brush up on my skills since it has been a few years since I have worked in the GIS field, which I am looking to get back into. This book uses the same format as the previous books I own with step-by-step instructions with pictures in teaching how to use the various features of ArcGIS Pro, which the format was completely foreign to me since this is a new software put out by ESRI since working in the GIS field but one that I wanted to learn. By using this book, all of ArcMap and ArcCatalog's features are coming back to me extremely fast and I am learning the new features of ArcGIS Pro at the same time. I am having a blast and I have this book to thank for it. I completely recommend this book if you are a new GIS user or have some familiarity with the software. Best part is that the book comes with a free 180-day trial code (printed in the back of the book) to use ArcGIS Pro, which you have to download from ESRI's website; something Amazon does not clarify in its product description for this book. You will not be disappointed with this book, especially if you have used the other GIS tutorial books written by Wilpen Gorr and Kristen Kurland.

Excellent learning tool
Clearly written, practical, and well thought-out exercises to learn the Arc-GIS Pro software. Detailed and sophisticated without being cluttered. Demonstrates step by step, then reinforces with “do it on your own” exercises.

149 pages of corrections!
Twenty years ago, I taught myself to use ArcView from an Esri book. I used the skills I learned for 3 years, then let them lapse. Now I want to pick them up again, so I bought this book based on 7 reviews, all 5-star ratings. It was a mistake. Here’s why.PLUSES• The book comes with a code that allows for a 6-month trial of ArcGIS Pro. That’s huge!• There are many good exercises with color pictures that illustrate what to do.* Lots of assignments at the end of each chapter.MINUSES• The book assumes you have a teacher leading you through concepts. As a standalone tutorial, it’s not ideal.• There’s no index, so often it’s difficult or impossible to remember how to do a step that was taught in an earlier chapter or page. When that happened, I had to Google it.• Here’s the killer: To use this book, you must download a PDF document with 149 pages of corrections. Yes, there are 149 pages of mistakes in this book! I can’t tell you how many times I was working through an exercise and got stuck, only to discover the step in the book (or an illustration) was wrong. Why wasn’t the book reprinted so all the mistakes are corrected? Mr. Gorr and Ms. Kurland, you’ve had two years to correct this book (copyright 2017, I bought it new in 2019). Why wasn’t this done? There must be better books for beginners who are not in a college class.
