Mike's Civil PE Exam Guide: Morning Session

Very Good Resource
I found Mike's Exam Guide to be very helpful. NCEES practice exams are also very good, but they haven't published a new one since 2014. I found these practice problems to be close to the NCEES problems, and close to the exam problems. His solutions were really good and he even references locations of formulas in the CERM. I highly recommend this for PE exam prep. For reference, I passed the PE in civil-water resources on the first attempt.

Great book, definitely recommend
First off, I'm a licensed professional mechanical engineer with an undergrad in mechanical engineering. At first, I was overwhelmed with the thought of the breadth portion of the exam because I had barely any exposure to many of the topics on the exam. I purchased this book after reading the reviews and I am very pleased with the purchase. In the book, there are tips and tricks that help the reader identify the key concepts that will be on the breadth test. There are also helpful suggestions on where to tab the CERM also. I passed the civil engineering/structural depth exam on the first attempt and I am now licensed in both civil engineering and mechanical engineering. I definitely recommend this book.

Excellent addition to your study material
When I first heard about this book on a forum I was skeptical and thought it was all hype. After reading some of the comments on here and listening to others who have used this book I decided to purchase a copy. This study guide is spot on with the level of difficulty you will see on the exam and just like the NCEES practice exams. I highly recommend adding this study guide to your AM studies. If you want to do well on the exam you need to get as many AM questions as you can. This study guide will help you get those "low hanging fruit" type problems. Thanks to this study guide (and several others) I passed!

A Must For Your Exam Kit
Mike's Exam Guide is basically a 40-problem sample test for the Civil PE morning session, with details on the solutions AND where to find necessary information in the massive CERM. Also includes tips on how to prepare for and survive on exam day. Refreshingly practical and very helpful in its presentation. Need more like this!Update 16April2012:I took the Civil PE Exam on Friday - nearly 10% of the morning portion questions I encountered were answered directly from Mike's Exam Guide. These were gravy questions and answered quickly as I had the answers immediately at hand - differing dimensions and drawings, but still. THANKS MIKE!Update 07June2012:I PASSED ON THE FIRST TRY!!! Some may say this book is pricy for its size, but with an easy 8 - 10 questions answered in the morning session for me - it was worth it. Who knows if those points made the difference between passing and failing? I'll tell ya - the afternoon session was killer and I know I couldn't have passed by a wide margin. My initial review title is too true - this is a must-have for your CE PE Exam Kit!

Helpful practice exam
The sample problems in this book helped me prepare for and pass the Civil PE exam in April. I purchased this along with several other practice exam books, and I would advise anyone planning to take the PE exam to do the same... These are a lot cheaper than re-taking the exam! The problems in this practice exam were very realistic, and the solution guide helped me see where I went wrong on the problems I missed. The only issue I noticed was that since this book is a few years old, the CERM references are for the older edition. Overall, I highly recommend this book!

Very Similar to the Real Exam, just a tad bit more difficult
This book is about 10% more difficult than the actual exam, so it is really close to the content you will actually see. Great explanations as well. Get this and the PassTheCivilPE practice exams and just work problems--much more effective and useful than taking a $2000+ review course.
