Poor release mechanism
Just got it and have not yet tried it - but will today.Likes: The construction. Ease of setting vs the wire cage type rat trap. Large bait area on far side of trigger plate.Potential dislike: Difficult release scheme. The instructions are nonsensical. When you open the entrance door to release, the rat will move to far end. When you set the trap down the rat will hit the trigger and close the door. There is no way to hold the entrance door at release when you put the cage down as instructed. Short term I plan to use some sort of spiting clip and pinch between the bottom of the cage and the door to hold it open.I will update the review after using.

Mouse feeder
Set up trap with peanut butter for bait. Mouse went in, ate bait, took a poop and left. Door was not triggered by the weight of the mouse. I’m going to try putting some weight on the trigger plate to see if that plus the weight of the mouse will be enough to spring the door release. I will update with my results.

Junk
Save your money. This trap is a piece of junk.

A little stiff, but it works
This humane mouse trap should really be called a rat trap. The trigger is a bit stiff for a super lightweight mouse. However, using something sticky like peanut butter improves your chances of catching one of the little guys considerably. The trap is well made, and I don't think it could accidentally harm a mouse/rat. To me, that is the most important part. I don't want to kill the rodents - just move them elsewhere (like several blocks away!).Overall, if you want a humane trap, this one will do the job. But I wouldn't put loose bait in there. Use something sticky so they will trigger the trap by grabbing the bait even if they're tiny.

Sturdy, humane, but this is a rat trap, not a mouse trap
This trap is very good quality, and it does what it says it does – traps vermin humanely. However, as another reviewer said, this is really more of a mouse feeder than a mouse trap. Most mice that I’ve had in my house are of the smaller variety, and none of them trigger this particular trap. If you’re having a rat or vole problem, this should do the trick. But if you seek a mouse trap, find one with a more sensitive trigger.

Works for larger mice/vermin but not smaller ones.
We've always used the "catch and release" type of trap since the snap ones are somewhat barbaric and the glue ones are completely barbaric. We imagine that these work well for larger vermin but smaller mice aren't heavy enough to trip the mechanism. As someone else pointed out, they are great small mice feeders since the mouse can get to the bait and eat it and then come back the next day for more. Also they are very difficult to clean. Unless you are lucky enough to find the mouse right away, they will urinate and defecate inside the trap. Normally you can easily soak the plastic ones in something to remove the unwanted mouse excrement, these don't easily allow you to do that.We gave them a 3-star review as they are nicely made and would have done the job on larger mice. If you think about it and can wait patiently a small mouse might be able to eat enough bait from this to fatten themselves up to the point they would trip the mechanism, but who wants to wait that long?

Good Idea Overall, Design Needs Work for Triggering
I think this may work well with a heavier rodent, but so far a mouse isn’t triggering the release to capture it. I’ve been through something just like this with a larger trap trying to capture cats who had gotten wise to baiting and spring releases. So, I put the bait way in the back so the mouse would have no real choice but to walk over with full wait. He ate the peanut butter cracker I had set up, then left without springing the trap. I want a live trap, and would be exactly it, if I can figure out the weight triggering element. The design is essentially good, so I hope they work to refine the trigger.

Fine For Larger Rodents
This trap sets up easy and is effective with larger rodents. The spring release is too heavy to have the average field mouse trigger the trap.
