Personal finance guidance from a master
Deepak Shenoy's blog at CapitalMind has been a must read for more than a decade now for people interested in the markets in India. He has been one of handful of personal finance writers who really took an effort to make financial concepts simple enough for a casual reader. Now he brings the same wit and wisdom in a book form, and does not disappoint. Readers of his blog will find the same easy style, perceptive insights, and easy to follow guidance in this book. People who have not read Deepak previously will find a charming new narrative style which is neither patronizing or abstruse. This book would be absolutely useful for people who are keen to get their finances in order - professionals who just want that level of knowledge that will help them distinguish from right and wrong to have the confidence to get going.Money Wise immediately goes to the top 5 list of books that are a must-read for personal finance in India.

Book is a great read
Book has a good balance between theoretical and practical knowledge. Lacks Technical though. It is a great read If you are reading such a book for the first time. But for an average reader this book lacks a lot.I would say it is still better than some top rated books on monetary and fiscal policy.

Wisdom About Money
Deepak Shenoy, Whom I have been following for more than a decade is well known in investment circles. His sane advice, calm measured responses on topics, his coverage of macroeconomics and Investment psychology have always been very helpful. This book is a distillation of his thoughts. The book is layer by layer exposition of fundamentals like Income, Savings, Emergency funds, Insurance, Mutual Funds equity and others. He presents a step by step guide from, getting a handle on your current financial situation, determining your goals, building your strategy, looking at your asset allocation, and actually investing. He covers equities (shares as he calls them) and lays out an easy framework, to evaluate companies for investment. He keeps the best for the last chapter where he discusses his concept of "suckered" - how people have been duped, by scams and dark practices by the various financial institutions and how to avoid getting suckered. This is a must-read book for anyone investing in Indian financial instruments and reads like a thriller on the recent history of our markets.Highly recommended.

Lot is packed in
I am not the expert in financial industry and this book shows you how dense it is to understand and comprehend the myriad world of stocks, cash flows, balance sheets, forex, insurance, returns and more. My key lessons from this book:1. Go for MFs - I added a US focused MF right while reading the chapter (Motilal)2. Term insurance over ULIPs3. The part about not doing default savings account is good - hadn't considered it. Will do.Overall, the book is quite rich - definitely not the easy flow one like Let's Talk Money but still important. I do hope Deepak gets a better editor. There is a lot packed in but story telling and chapter framing can be improved in the next edition.

Good place to start
The book ticks all the essential and basic baskets. I have come across some reviews where buyers have downgraded their rating saying the book is for beginners. Well writing for beginners is not wrong. You the Ultra Pro Max Investor must have started somewhere as well...Things I liked:1. Covers all the basics2. Crisp, witty and fun read3. Mutual funds are explained well. Chapter on stocks and trading strategies, albeit for beginners, is good.4. Chapter on financial history of India and the scams of old are indulging. Wish it was more, could be an interesting book in itself.
