Planespotting [2005] [DVD]

I picked this up because I actually knew one of the real "Plainspotters" - a very charming fella, if a little loopy about planes, and a band called Killing Joke - before, during and after the time of his incarceration and was curious to see if they captured the event well.In summary, they didn't. Regrettably, we see this far too often in UK* "made for TV" movies: a lot of artistic license, rearrangements of key facts and dates, all to "help the story flow". And the characters could not have been more off the mark.Along with flaccid direction and production values, this all falls rather flat. If you can't get either the facts right, or develop a good story, what's the point?* Another example was the BBC's treatment of "Bravo Two Zero". Leaving aside whether the question of McNab's recollection of events was anything like the truth, they managed somehow to completely twist that story into something very different, all for the sake of the "arc of the story". One might argue that given that McNab may have made up large sections of the story, this was legitimate. Not so in the case of a real true story that had been well documented.Poor.

The characters are wonderful and plot is very real

i bought this movie becouse i enter some of the shots .. this movie was Made in Portugal , because the greek autorites didnt alowed the movie beeen recorded in Greece !

ONE REASON THAT I GAVE 5 STARS IS BECAUSE THIS MOVIE REVEALS THE OLD FASHION/ AUTHORITARIAN STYLE OF GREEK BUREAUCRACY.I AM GREEK AND I FEEL ASHAMED FOR THE TREATMENT THAT THOSE PEOPLE GOT IN SOUTHERN GREECE.THE NATIONALISM AND THE OBSESSION WITH THE ARMY IS SOMETHING THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH GREECE.THOSE BRITS THEY WERE VERY UNLUCKY AND THEY END UP TO JAIL....FOR NO REASON UNDER TERRIBLE AND INHUMAN CONDITIONS THAT GREEK STATE SHOULD APOLOGISE AND FEEL EMBARASED.BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS ARE VIOLATED AND I AM WONDERING WHY THE EU DOESNT DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT???HAVE IN MIND THAT THE GREEK ARMY IS A JOKE.GREECE PRETENDS TO HAVE AN ARMY AND NOONE TAKES IT SERIOUSLY,NOT EVEN THE SOLDIERS THEMSELVES, EXCEPT OF COURSE THE VERY FANATICS THAT UNFORTUNATELY EXIST IN OUR DAYS...ANYWAY...IS POLITICAL THE ISSUE.GREECE IS A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY AND COULD BE MORE BEAUTIFUL IF THE PEOPLE THE STATE AND THE MENTALITY WERE MORE "EUROPEAN" AND NOT SO OLD FASHION AND ROUGH....
