What is the range of this device, i.e., how far away can a transmitting or receiving device be from the adapter?

This is actually a two fold answer. The quality of the headphones have an effect too. Between etrond's first transmitter and the new one, using Bluedio's UFO Pro's, their second adapter reaches at least 15' further using the same pair of headphones. They are both running bluetooth 4.1 and aptX. If you use and older version of bluetooth, your distance may be altered. I love the gained distance I get with etrond's new transmitter /receiver.

When does Trond anticipate incorporating the new Bluetooth V.5 into its devices?

The SIG association is promoting the concept of Bluetooth V5.0 at this stage. However, it still take quite some time for manufacturers to design related products around the Bluetooth V5.0 chipset.
