Michell Engineering Orbe Clamp Upgrade Kit

If you're lucky enough to own a Michell Gyrodec/SE, then this is a really worthwhile upgrade. It is reasonably simple to fit although it does take a little effort to remove the spindle, so if you have some way of clamping the central assembly, then you will make life a lot easier; ( I clamped mine into a workmate and was then able to loosen the spindle with a pair of mole grips). After that you simply screen in the new spindle and tighten. Once you have relocated the platter, you then screw the replacement nut on, knurled side down.The idea is that the nut is raised slightly and lifts up the center of the record, so that once you screw on the clamp, it flattens the record down so that it is fully in contact with the platter. The washer is for use with thinner records and goes convex side down over the washer.I previously used the the cheaper clamp version, which does improve things, but this raises things to a whole new level; base is tighter and you find yourself turning the volume down, because the stylus is picking up far more detail. I really can't recommend this enough and whilst it isn't exactly cheap, given the overall cost of these turntables, not getting this upgrade is really false economy. Highly recommended.
