A key event in Minnesota's history as presented in the 19th Century
I bought the Kindle version of this old book written in the style of the era being described. The story told was from the perspective of a lady who lived through these challenging times in Minnesota's early history. The book was an easy read however provided a very vivid pictures of the times. While attending grade school in Minnesota, we learned of the Sioux Massacre and some background on it's causes and the ultimate result. This book provides detail that illuminates some of the conditions and circumstances that led to this terrible series of events. Given that the United States was heavily engaged in the Civil War when the Sioux Uprising/Massacre happened, the reader can clearly understand the times through this written portal to the past. More recent books may provide greater detail and perhaps a wider variety of perspectives, however, I recommend this book for someone who wants to gain an understanding of this time in Minnesota's history in a brief and an easy to read manner.

Hard work but very worthwhile
I found this book very interesting. As mentioned in other reviews there are spelling mistakes and it is written in an old fashioned type of English. However, as one review stated. If you make the effort to read and complete the book it is very worthwhile and very interesting. Also as it was written at the time by a person who was close to those involved it gave a good perspective of how the people at the time thought and reacted to things. It contains some quite brutal information and some very sand and happy moments. It dealt with the good and the bad on boths sides and has changed some of my perseptions and educated me on a subject that I knew very little about.

This edition is so badly written and so badly produced with so many spelling and printing errors that it is virtually impossible to make any sense of it.
