We needed a good torch for lighting BBQ smoker pellets, kitchen creations and my specialty, creme brulee. This torch replaces one we had to part with far too long ago. When it arrived, we had Butane ready for it (note: It ships empty, and while Butane can be ordered thru Amazon, it's a lot easier and quicker to pick it up at Home Depot, hardware stores, etc.).Anyway, fueled up the torch, read the mostly but not entirely perfect English translation of the instructions on the box, pressed the safety, pulled the trigger and scared the bejeebers out of our cats who were (at a reasonable distance) curious what I was playing with (and if they might be able to fit in the box it shipped in -- answer: no).Nice flame, easy to control, works every time. Although we have only had it a short while and haven't done anything very culinary with it yet, out of the box is does what it says it does, it feels like good quality, and it performs. Long term quality... well, that will take some time to determine, but not seeing any reason to question it. (Oh, the kitchen tools it came with are actually not too bad... If you don't need them, probably somebody does).(P.S. Some reviews say there are no instructions -- if you're looking for paper inside the box, that's correct. However, the side of the box includes instructions as well as how the controls work, so in my opinion, instructions are included).

I bought this cooking torch as a soldering iron for automotive purposes, to create battery terminals, use on heat shrink tubing for electric wiring, melting the tips of nylon cords, synthetic shoelaces to keep them from fraying and more. It gets very hot very quickly and works super well with a lot of control and safety features. I shoots out a long and nice concentrated flame at the higher setting. So, I suggest, turning the flow/control knob to the quarter or half mark until you become familiar with the product, functionality and flame length.I paid more than today's listed price of $9.80 and thought I got a great deal. So for that price, it's a steal. I highly recommend this product. It's easy to fill, easy to use and far exceeded my expectations. I am very happy with the product for shop use. I assume it will work as well or better if you are one who likes to go camping or use in the kitchen.

This is a great kitchen tool and worked beautifully on my creme brulee. It's easy to use and you can dial the flame up or down based on what you need. I gave it 4 stars because it would have been helpful if there was a fuel gauge. I couldn't really tell if I filled it up or not with the butane. Secondly, the instructions are online instead of being included in the box. Not a big deal because it is so easy to use and there are videos on the Amazon comments or YouTube for those who like visual instructions.

Pros:1. The Pepe Nero is an excellent blowtorch with a clean powerful flame.2. I have used it to make creme (and cheesecake) brulee, lemon meringue pie, lightly toast bread and melted cheese. I have also used it to caramelize steaks (of medium thickness) once they have been cooked sous vide.It accomplishes all of these applications quite easily.3. A pleasant surprise is how efficient it is in its use of fuel. I brulee'd 3 layers of sugar on an 8 inch cheesecake (a la Dominique Ansel) and there was still plenty of gas left in the canister.4. I bought it on Amazon, and since I live in India, I was taking a bit of a chance but it all worked out for the best.Cons:1. I would prefer a little more heft and solidity in the construction. It is a little light in weight.2. An indicator of how much gas is left in the unit would be helpful.3. It also only works with gas canisters with long pins so if you have purchased a gas canister with a short pin, then you may not be able to charge the unit.These are minor quibbles and I would highly recommend this torch to all concerned.

I buy a lot of stuff online. These people were so attentive in their communications and caring it was amazing. They do not rest until you are 100% satisfied with every aspect of your order. The torch is everything they said it would be and more. Heavy to the hand, feels nice and sturdy and quality oriented. The function of the torch is great. Also it looks fantastic just hanging out on the counter right next to the cutting board. 5 Star product and service.

I just received the torch and tried it out immediately. It works great. I used it again the next day and it did a very good job on the Creme Brulee. I know I have had it only a short time but it is off to a good start. It is easy to use and feels well made. It did come with directions and I also downloaded the directions that were attached to the email from the seller. In a few month I will write a follow up.

I bought this torch primarily for searing meats after I cook them sous vide. Lighting the torch typically takes me quite a few tries before it actually ignites, and once it is going adjusting the flame can be difficult. There is a small knob for adjusting the flame, and I've found that I have to turn it a lot to get the flame to shrink at all, and once it starts shrinking it dies very quickly, so you have to be quite careful to not let the flame go out.I've been using it for several months now and it has worked fine for searing steaks and other meats. I've also used it for creme brulee, which turned out fine, though I may have been able to slightly taste butane. I've tried to be careful to not use the torch too close but sometimes I think I can taste the butane anyway.Overall the torch is fine, but I think I will be trying a propane torch instead soon.

Comes with measuring spoons, whisk, and a little bag for the torch. The torch works. The red buttons and black area around it don't seem the highest quality, same with the base, but I guess that is okay unless something breaks in the future. The chrome metal body and metal tip are nice quality.I only tried it on a few things and can't complain much. If you're looking for a good quality butane refill that is pure and has a very clean hot burn, I suggest Whip-It Premium. 6 or 12 pack for the best deal.
