Helps but not a complete solution
This product works by making the deposits on the flue less sticky and easier to remove. But that is somewhat different to cleaning the chimney, ours still needed sweeping. So yes it helps but it is not a complete solution.

Easy to use and does exactly what it says.
So much easier to use than anything else we have tried, and did a really good job. Bought 2 blocks but only use 1 so far. Will reorder more as it does exactly what it states and our chimmney was really bad. Supplier was very efficient and will purchase again.

Most advisable
Having just heard of a nearby chimney fire I explored this item and used it. The sweep has just praised this item saying it ( and the better value once a week Zip sachets also available on Amazon) really does work in my 6" lined chimney. It was interesting seeing what effect this has. As the brush went up through the pretty tight fit, one could hear the debris clattering down straight into the hoover. I should explain I have a woodburner with a trap halfway up the mantlepiece. The sweep explained there are two cold places in my chimney - one in the lower section and then another at the top where the stack is. Sure enough, the debris increased as he reached the top. This is the SECOND time I have had mine swept, first being November. I use the woodburner throughout the year (more or less) as it has a back boiler. I use seasoned and covered wood, but still get a surprising amount of creosote. It is quite surprising how many people do NOT have their chimneys swept on a regular basis. This product essentially allows the creosote to blister off and drop down (mostly to the trap in my case) so in effect, whilst it reduces build up it does mean you MUST have your chimney cleared of debris that has dropped down.

Mmmmmm..... I wonder?
We have a lot of creosote build up in our high chimney that sweeping wouldn't move. We bought this log after reading reviews and the write up on it. We used it yesterday. It didn't light properly so I had to use two firelighters in the end. It eventually began to burn, or should I say smoulder but put off very little smoke which is what I was led to believe was the magic carrier for the chemicals which would begin to work on the build up and turn it to clinker. It smouldered away for hours and hours (much longer than the instructions led to believe) and the stove was really hot and we had loads of hot water! It does say it works for 15 days so we will wait and see. My husband will put his camera on a cable down in two weeks time and see what is happening in there. We are only using smokeless fuel at the moment and keeping a low fire on as it is warming up here in the north. So - wait for my update on effectivness. It arrived very quickly in a strong package.July 2015 - didn't get done what we planned as we got the offer of a chimney sweep in our area at that time so we had the chimney swept instead. These logs aren't made to be used instead of chimney sweeps - they just keep the soot from forming into horrid creosote. The chimney sweep said that the soot was easy to fall when he brushed it but I had been using the Stovax chimney powder before this. I prefer it as it keeps the chimney from clogging up badly between sweeps. We are using smokeless fuel which helps prevent the buildup. I've bought no more logs but continue with the Sotvax powder. Didn't like the severe heat on the stove with the log.

A good chimney fire prevention aid.
Having had a chimney fire last year our chimney sweep recommended using these logs twice a year to help keep the chimney clean and free from fires. They are simple to use just pop one in an empty fire and light it. Then keep the doors closed until it is full burned away. We have had no problems since we started using these in our wood burner. I will be buying some more again soon.
