Miller HarrisVetiver Insolent Eau de Parfum | Woody, Smoky Perfume

This was my first Miller Harris scent and the reality definitely lives up to the reputation. The packaging is nice; sophisticated with a muted colour palette and a matte box. The glass bottle is substantial and the metal cap is lovely and weighty in the hand (yes, I am a weird connoisseur of luxury products but I do like and appreciate these almost unnoticeable little touches).Ok, on to the important stuff – this smells divine. I didn't know what vetiver was, and it's definitely a peppery, spicy, earthy sort of scent. As women's fragrances go, this is definitely towards the unisex end, but it's also got a really nice sexy warmth to it that prevents it from being too masculine a scent. Wears extremely well and still smells delicious hours after being applied. In fact, I probably like how it fades the best and it really came into its own about twenty minutes after I put it on first. There's something slightly reminiscent of sandalwood about it, except less hippie and with more depth. Maybe a bit of spice, like cardamom or black pepper?You often can't tell what a scent will be like before you try it on, but the thing I really like with Miller Harris is the ability to layer one scent with others, and the description gives a number of suggestions that I'd be keen to try. I think this could be a great base for something rich and floral. However, I really do love it on its own.

An interesting scent, but a bold spicy/peppery one that could be a little Marmite in how it splits opinion, hence the mid-range score. Many people would rate higher, others wouldn't. Personally I find it pleasant, but can see how others may not. The aroma doesn't alter too much on wearing it, so a small tester (recommended) will be a good guide.On the assumption you do test it and like the different aromatic tones, our experience is that the perfume is long lasting and doesn't change too much over time and contact with the skin. The bottle and packaging are attractive too, so nice as a gift.

Lasts and lasts on my very unpredictable skin type - so glad I discovered this one and it'll be a keeper for me! Highly recommended!

The overwhelming smell of this product is SMOKE with some other, to me ACRID smells. I offered it to 'she who must be obeyed' first and was told firmly that it is NOT for ladies. I have then worn it for four consecutive days to see how I got on with it - and I DON'T.It is strong enough smelling to last the whole day so, if you are a smoker already then you could wear this and it would suit the aura you are trying to give to others perhaps.Sorry Miller Harris but it really is awful to me.

Exactly as I expected

This was the first time "She who must be obayed" aka the wife, tried this perfume by Millar Harris. At first she thought the scent was a little overpowering (reminded her of old books) but it settled down after a few minutes and she actually liked the smell. I have to say I found the smell nice and pleasent. As other reviewers have pointed out the price is rather high. Saying that because of the strength of the scent you only need a few drops which last for most of the day.
