This device was so easy to set up and use. Importantly, it lost no signal whatsoever from the old VHS player to the computer (OSX). I have tried to capture old video before using older devices and some signal strength is lost en route - leaving the copy that is a little wobblier and granier than the original. This copy was simply perfect and worked first time. For apple users, your file will save in .mov format file which is a large file type (about 4 GB per 30 mins) but it can be easily exported afterwards to .m4v (mp4) or other file types via Apple's Quicktime. I am thrilled that a device this affordable and simple can save my old home movies. Also, every aspect of the picture and sound can be adjusted for import so you can increase contrast or colour during the capture or reduce sharpness for the more granier old movies. Delighted with this.

I bought this to convert my old camcorder tapes to digital. Although I got started fairly easily and managed to convert about 1 hour of tape to digital, it then just unexpectedly and without warning stopped working. When I try to use VideoCapture I get a pink screen that says Forward Video on it and a horrible noise (like an old TV with those blaack/white dots and screechy noise) and it will no longer play the videos from the camcorder onto the screen, hence nor will it record anything. Ive tried reinstalling the software but this didn't help. The ReadMe file suggests I delete a Forward Video Preferences file which I have spent an hour searching my Mac for and cannot find anywhere.I have emailed the support email they give and am waiting for a response, but very likely I will have to return this! Very disappointed!**UPDATE**I got a replacement from the manufacturer last week and have since used it successfully. Although a bit fiddly (as long as you connect everything and open it in the right order, also check the settings if something is wrong as they sometimes default to the wrong thing) it works fine and I am now very happy with it!

Great device! I've copied all of my 1990/2000 videos of the children growing up onto my hard drive from my old Sony Camcorder. Simple to use, only key area is to run the software as administrator as saving options didn't come up until I did this.

Returned to Amazon within the hour of delivery because the product Instructions make clear to REGISTER PRODUCT for warranty etc BEFORE INSTALLING & USING - but when you attempt to do so via SAFARI or FIREFOX you're advised it's an UNSECURE WEBSITE & warn you to NOT PROCEEED..... then when you attempt to INSTALL the supplied CD you find it is totally BLANK and mounts as as unformatted UNTITLED CD.fpbf - but THEN if you follow the instructions to download their software that should be on the CD, by way of a web address (written on the CD) you arrive at a CHINESE website with two lines of Chinese writing? I appreciate other reviewers obviously did NOT experience same so somewhat bemused by my experience.

Works perfectly. The Manual could do with more supporting screen pictures. One thing to note Install the software first but don't run the application. This is a great piece of kit at a great price. I have managed to copy all my home movies from tapes from my camcorder and from VHS tapes in my video recorder. All I needed extra was a set of male to male RCA leads and a switched scart adapter for them to use in my VCR, which I had lying around the house anyways. You may not always need the scart adapter, it depends on your connections on the back of your VCR. This software copied the video to my PC and it also worked on my MacBook Pro. You can then burn to DVD using the same software, so no messing about with any other software.

Worked well with Windows 10 and is relatively easy to use. I used it to convert VHS home video tapes to digital. Most annoying problem is any sort of visual noise caused the capture software to stop and give a warning about copy write protection. As a result most of my captures were frequently interrupted. Moving the tape forward a few seconds past the noise cured the problem until the problem repeated.

Having upgraded to MacOS Catalina on my MacBook Pro I needed a new video capture device to replace the one I had been using, that does not work with the new system. I opted for the Top-Longer device because the product information on Amazon clearly specified that it would work with Catalina. However, I did not realise that it is intended to be used with the QuickTime Player app and so could not get it to work. I emailed Tech Support and got a very prompt reply explaining this and now that I am using it together with QuickTime it works fine! I have given it four stars only because I think the instructions could be clearer.

Mac Users - I’m using the Top-Longer USB 2.0 VHS to DVD Video Capture Device. The barcode sticker on the bottom of the box says (Updated Version) and New. The software version is 1.6.0, which is the same version on their webpage. It’s working fine on my mid 2011 iMac running Mac OS High Sierra. The software installed with no problems using the license key printed on the CD sleeve.The GUI is simplistic, but you have options. Some people have said that there’s no sound while recording. That’s an option you can turn on and off in the recording setup. I used the default presets except changing to the Apple Intermediate Codec at 640x480 and got a 2GB file for 20 minutes of video. Color looked pretty much as expected. A 90 minute film @ 720x586 was 13GB. It will compress when burned to DVD so no worries there, as long as you have the storage space.I have both iMovie and FCPX so I would do any cleanup and editing there. As a caveat, both of the drives in my iMac are SSD’s, and I have 16GB ram. Your mileage may vary. For $29 this has been an excellent solution to the VHS problem, it's worked well for me and I would recommend it.

Ich überspiele VHS/VHS-C Kasseten auf mein älteres MacBook Pro (10.10.5). Die Installation der mitgelieferten Software verlief einwandfrei. Nach einigen Justierungen der Grundeinstellungen funktioniert das überspielen mehr als gut. Längster Film war insgesamt 2 Stunden am Stück. Während der Üvertragung der Daten hört man keinen Ton, aber die Synchro im Endergebnis ist gut. Ich bin sehr zufrieden für diese gute Lösung für kleines Geld.

Originally we were going to try this with a Mac based on other comments here, but instead we tried this on a few Windows 10 PCs (fully up-to-date) to see if we ran into some of the same issues. Thankfully, we did not. It installed just fine and captured content perfectly (at least, as perfectly as such a resolution coming from old tapes is going to get you). Two out of three tapes backed up before the VCR decided to stop working properly and ate the third tape to shreds. So the third tape was no fault of this device, giving it a solid win so far. It will be awhile until we get additional media to test it with, but if we find anything different with our results, we will update with details.
