Patterns in Mathematics, Grades 3-6: Investigating Patterns in Number Relationships

Helpful for digging deeper into Math
My child is an average 2nd grader and found this book to have some easy activities and some challenging. These lessons teach exactly what the title says, math patterns. Many of them not what your everyday person would look for. I found the lessons to give my son a deeper understanding when looking at numbers. Each lesson begins with the student completing a table or a series of progressive problems. Stuff that you'd probably teach your child like the addition table, multiplication table or other types of basic building block. Then, the student is asked to take a sets of numbers and perform a function (like add up all numbers in a row, column, diagonal), Next, the student examines the data and is asked to identify a pattern, and finally make predictions. Then, check their predictions. This is the basic gist of each lesson. It takes what a student already know and helps them examine relationships in the data found. The example I give above is the simplest of the lessons and the data does get more involved as the text moves on.I don't want to give a 5 star yet as we have not completed the book. However, I do recommend it to those who have students that like to dig deeper into math problems without learning "new" material.

we skip some pages
some of these pages are very, very good, teaching kids the patterns in the 9s-table or the 11-s table, teaching two-digit multiplication tricks. Some of the pages are just meaningless busy work, so we skip those. What I like about the book is it leads your child, step-by-step, to recognize patterns in math.Mathematics is the language of the universe. It's marvelous.

Fantastic book
It's an excellent book to practice the fundamentals of logic and pattern recognition in a 7-9 years old. Not too difficult to be frustrating, and not too easy so that it does not require thinking but just right. It's not a very large book and at 1-2 pages per day you will be through it in a couple of weeks, but it's totally worth the price.

Great book
My fourth grade daughter loved this book. It is great to see her eyes light up when she discovered the patterns. For us, I needed to stay close by when she had questions but that is all we needed. She loved each and every challenge and knowing I was there if it got a little tough. Good confidence builder to discover new ways to look at math.

I expected more
The book served its purpose. but I expected it to be more for the money that I paid for it.

Fantastic book for a 9 year old
I have very good arithmetic background, so I teach my daughter these techniques to make her successful in maths competitions.

I wish I had not wasted my money on this workbook
I wish I had not wasted my money on this workbook. It's just a glorified exercise in addition and times tables. Not worth the price.
