CANTATE DOMINO

First heard this lovely album on vinyl many years ago, and thought that it would never be available on CD. We lost our copy in a move, and could not remember the name. Tonight we did, and will order post haste. If the days when you sat in a village church at midnight are either long gone, or never happened for you and you don't understand the magic, then this is the one to choose. For magic it is. Every note of it. Not recorded in a cathedral, with a boys' choir, but in a small Swedish Country church. We even forgive "White Christmas" (although only by a whisker!). Treat yourself to something altogether different. It's Christmas!

A Christmas essential with some lovely classical interpretations. And a high-end audio classic as well. It is incredible how this recording by Properius (together with Jazz at the Pawnshop) is still today, decades after release, a superb recordings of choral music and the acoustics of a church. A textbook case of how an analog recording can capture the essential emotion and atmosphere of a musical performance.Now I've been able to listen to it on vinyl this only reconfirms the historic value of this recording. On my system (Mitchel Gyrodec/SME IV/Benz Micro Wood SL v.s. DCS Puccini) I believe it still outclasses the HD download that is also available. Pretty amazing!

I've had this record on vinyl for many years and have nearly worn it out. I am so relieved to be able to buy a fresh cd version of it. Virtually everyone I have played it to agrees that, with the frankly unforgiveable exception of White Christmas (what were they thinking?!!!) it is the most magical and evocative Christmas record they've ever heard. Fortunately WC is the last track so you can whip it off before it ruins the mood. Beautiful music, beautifully played and sung. I love it.

wanted this for ages superb choral music

I also count myself among the fortunate few who heard and purchased this on vinyl many years ago. I still have the LP, and it is still in very good condition. I have ordered the CD version for use in the car and digital use.It is difficult to convey in words just how wonderful this music is, and superlatives seem trivial, but it has occupied the number one position in my personal chart for 27 years and looks like staying there for a while. It really is that good.

Die Musik spricht für sich , aber daß die Aufnahme mit einer Revox A 77 und nur 2 Mikrophone gemachtwurde, ist dann ob der Qualität , schon eine Überraschung !!!

I’ve got 2 copies of this album, one came badly scratched- bad enough to cause pops, and the second one arrives warped, looking like a shallow dish, and has scratches too. It’s a real shame, because the album is so well recorded.
