Fascinating
This is a fascinating book and I cannot wait to start Tome2. We grow with the two main characters and discover Napoli in the 60's with them, as well as girlhood, relationships, ambition and the weight of your past.

A huge let down.
I do not understand what the hype is all about. The style of writing is impersonal and none of the characters are engaging. I had very high expectations with this novel, which all my friends are reading and have unanimously said was brilliant. This story of a friendship between two girls growing up in Naples is a collection of uninteresting stories, told in a matter-of-fact way. I do not think it has got anything to do with the translation as I tried to read it in French and I got the same feeling. I really do not see what the fuss is about. I tried to keep at it but I had to give up as there are so many other books out there that I would prefer reading.

Non riuscivo a staccarmi da questo romanzo.
Preso x mia mamma che legge solo in francese. Lo ha adorato, come d'altronde anche io nella sua versione originale.

Very fluent storytelling about Napels in the 50s
I heard about Elsa Ferrante and loved her first book; I really recommend it to everybody who loves reading about Italy, its culture from "the inside".It's just as if you would have been there yourself. It also gives a true insight in the issue of "talent", "gifted children" and "cultural limitations" of all sorts. A book about children not having the same chances, about education and books that open the mind, the future and last not least about the need to share with someone who understands.

muy buen libro
el estilo, el contenido, unos recuerdos de infancia pero en un fondo social: la Italia pobre, la Mafia, también lo que significaba ser niña y mujer en este ambiente y contexto
