A great book for any homeschooler or those who have any interest in the quality of their child's education.

This is an outstanding synopsis of Charlotte Masons work. It is concise, readable and inspiring. I highly highly recommend it.

I bought this as someone who is considering home schooling and likes the Charlotte Mason philosophy. However I think it is wrong to say that this book is only for those who are considering home schooling. It talks very much about education as the whole of the child's life and its suggestions can be applied in school or in the evenings as well. While it is a small book, and an easy writing style, it is packed with wisdom and thought provoking passages. I am sure I shall refer to it again.

Don't be put off this book, nor CM education philosophy, by the strong Christian basis. As an atheist, I've found a wealth of information in this book which is a personal review of CM and how it has worked for the author and her communities. It covers the major principles of CM as a whole in review (it is not a curriculum). I've found Waldorf education lacking in some aspects which CM has the answers to- Waldorf too airy fairy for you? CM offers the practical real life living education that works in a family. I devoured this book in a couple of nights and it has really crystallised 'how' I want to present an education and what I want to include (a distinct lack of fairies and gnomes for instance). A great book for HE families but also those with children in school- if parenting is strong at home then you can balance the negative effects from schools. Highly recommend for all parents.

I’ve read this book and very frequently given it to those who are interested in Charlotte Mason, home schooling or education in general. The author lays out such an excellent and accessible vision for education that will show you a completely paradigm shifting approach to life. She uses her own experiences with the cottage schools and her own children and lovingly takes you by the hand to lay out for you all the riches you never knew were possible.Watch out though! This books is absolutely the gateway to reading Charlotte Mason herself and you may find yourself in need of more shelf space!

This is a great book to introduce Charlotte Mason's educational philosophy. If you're not Christian, you'll have to skip over some sections, ignore some lines. It still has a lot to offer.

If you have influence over any young people, this book is for you! It has so much to offer everyone from the early years educator to the homeschooler, it does focus a lot on Charlotte Mason and her philosophies so if you've been considering a Charlotte Mason style education for your children this is an excellent place to begin but don't let this fact stop you from reading it no matter the educational style you are considering or have chosen. This is one I will come back to again and again over the years.
