Was quite disappointing
I bought this over a month ago for an older TV (non-smart). I thought the concept was great as a small and discreet way of upgrading to a smart TV. It arrived really quickly, and once unpacked installed quickly too. However, I was initially (first week or so) able to connect a 32g USB and record programs using the EPG as worked quite well, but the signal would then often cut out and the screen would go blue/black (although could hear program but not see it), which meant having to change channel and go back, move aerial around, then pic would return. I bought a really good quality freeview/freesat HD aerial and tried a regular aerial but the same thing happened. I've also tried this box on another tv, still same thing. When the channels picked up the quality was sharp/clear, but did find I had to re tune box often for lost channels. I also tried connecting to wifi, by trying two brands/types of wifi adapter/dongle (1, 150mbps WeChip and 2, 1200 mbps faster speed although not recommended) thinking that may work but neither did, as no connection to wifi at all. I suppose for this price it's ok, but I gave up using it as become a bit frustrating. Glad I didn't spend more on it..

Great (HD) Picture, remote didn't initially want to work.
Initial results have been good, although I had problems with the remote control. The remote control detector plugs into the main unit and initially I couldn't get the remote control to do anything. What I found was that a small green led light should be visible on the detector and only then will the remote work. Jiggling/twisting the cable in the socket to get the light (and stay on) resolved the issue.Picture quality is great, picked up all my freeview HD channels, including the ones on the weaker London COM7/COM8 multiplexes. The main reason of buying this was to work in conjunction with a Technomate HD Modulator, displaying the output on a tv which doesn't have a HD tuner. The Technomate outputs in HD but in MPEG4 (not in MPEG2 which a UK HD freeview channel would use) which means older TVs can't pick up the signal. This box was able to pick up the MPEG4 HD signal and like the freeview channels, the picture looks great.Overall all, great value at just over 20 pounds with postage. Build quality isn't wonderful (the remote control problems are an indication of that)but at 20 pounds can't complain and the picture quality, especially on the HD channels is really good.

does not work in ireland
will not work in ireland !. i did my research and found that although old freeview boxes dont work in ireland because thay are mpeg 2 but the newer freeview HD box is mpeg 4 and will receive saorview but although this box is HD and mpeg 4 it will not work because when setting up you have to select ireland as the county but despite a long list of countries in the menu, ireland is not there.would cost too much to return so money wasted.

Does not come with internal memory
Amazingly small gadget that plugs straight into the scary socket at the back of the TV. Really easy to set up. The instructions are minute and I am still trying to read them with my magnifying glass. I thought it was a free view recorder but although it has a record function there is no memory or hard drive. This has to be acquired separately and plugged into the USB port. Picture quality is good. Max sound level is a little too quiet for somebody who is hard of hearing.

For the price, I'm impressed so far!
I have only had this device for a few days but so far I am really impressed. Obviously you need a solid TV aerial signal going into the box plus you need to buy an HDMI cable if you want to utilise the HD signal (why wouldn't you?), but it seems to do exactly what it says on the tin and for the price I don't find any reason to fault it. I have not tried the record function yet but will add to the review if there is anything to report. I am hoping it has some longevity and that the price point doesn't mean that the components will be short lived. I'll update the review if I find fault.

Cheap but good
Pros: Does everything which full size pvr does including once, daily and weekly (for series) recording with excellent quality.Cons: After 9 months it stopped recognizing USB memory stick when put on timer recordings. Gives a message that USB stick not inserted even though I have inserted USB stick and tried with different USB stick.

Keeps dropping stations
Keeps dropping channels so regularly needs retuning but it was cheap and other set-top boxes for old tellyboxes have long since disappeared. It doesn't have BBC text, but then again, neither will anyone else soon, perhaps, maybe? Otherwise picture quality and sound not bad on an old tellybox that's been around a long time - so long it's a cathode ray tube type. Remember those?

Good little freeview box
Great size to have it hidden behind your TV. It does however seem to pixelate on the HD channels and occasionally there is a lag on video and audio. Also every now and then the box restarts it self mid program. But for the price and the size of it, it gets my 3 stars.
