Warship: Series 2 [DVD]

Reviewed series one in length. It's all about the ship for me. F42 in real life was in fact HMS Phoebe, a Devonport based ship. I remembered seeing 'Hero' tied up alongside when I was an apprentice in Devonport dockyard. The name obviously fitted over the original. I noticed that several of the scenes on board were filmed on different ships (the letters on the flight deck gave the game away) but I guess 'Phoebe' wasn't always available. It's a shame we don't have much of a Royal Navy these days, numbers wise, to be able to have a modern day series. Enjoyable none the less.

I enjoyed series 1 and I think series 2 is better with the characters settling into their roles. I'm interested in the whole RN thing anyway so for me its really good and brings back memories of old fashioned values and procedures. Its an all-male environment because the RN was at that stage, so it'll be interesting to see how it compares with later RN series which do include females. I can't think of any minuses except that if you aren't interested then that'll be the minus!

This is good watch but a bit dated and don’t exspect much seafaring as it was an early 70’s series which could have done better! The attention to detail of the period are good but a little frustrating. The plots play out rather slowly in comparison to these days a bit like the old doctors who series some good some bad.

This is a great series, and has been missed all these years, and not having it back on telly after all these years is a huge mistake, it is very easy to recommend this DVD collection to everyone, it'll bring back a whole lot of brilliant memories for many Matelots, and it's great to see all the old Leander Class Frigates at sea again, or should I say, the Grey Funnel LineFor those interested, it's hoped that series 3 will be out March/April next year, with series 4 the following August/September, this of course is dependent on when the BBC release the master copies, even though Simply Media own the rights, they still need the BBC to release the masters, so here's hoping the BBC get a move on

Arguably one of the top 5 credit sequences in UK TV history - if you don't get moist as HERO thrashes through the waves, you're a Pinko Remainer - and arguably one of the greatest classes of warship in the history of the RN (and I served in three of them!). Totally inappropriate for the modern age - there are no female sailors and no ethnic minorities - but a good representation of the Royal Navy in the 60s-80s. If you're of a certain age and a certain background, this is excellent viewing.

Really top series from BBC 1974. If you remember it from then, you'll enjoy it; if you don't and like good drama, try it. Most of the stories hold up very well. Of course there are a couple of 'jolts' in dialogue, but this was 40 odd years ago. The scripts are well written and some issues, particularly security, are still with us today. There are excellent performances, particularly from Donald Burton and David Savile, plus a host of good British actors. (We had fun identifying them!) The best thing about this series was the co-operation of the Royal Navy - superb. It made us proud to see the frigate and hear 'that music' each episode.

Warship I'd true nostalgia. I enjoyed it tremendously. The acting was very good reflecting 1970 drama. Sad that series 3 is not available.

I thoroughly enjoyed Series 2. As a former RN Submarine Marine Engineer Officer, the series gave a good insight into the the life and trials and tribulations of “Skimmers”. There were a number of parallels with the Submarine Service which brought back both happy and sad memories. What would be wonderful would be for the other Series to also be available on DVD
