Q: How much moss do you need to fill the pole?

They’re pretty large. If you fill the whole thing with moss it’ll take about 3/4 of the package of orchid moss you’d get at a lowes or Home Depot (the smaller packs that are about half the size of a cinder block and not super condensed). You can place something like styrofoam into the middle and place the moss around it to use less moss. I’ve also found that it’s best to fill the base of the post with styrofoam or other non-absorbent material for the part that is placed into the soil or you may end up with overly moist soil/potential for rot.

Q: Can you fill these with leca?

Yes you can, larger top open, easy to fill but make sure a small leca stay back otherwise it will fall through the front holes

Q: Dumb question but how do you keep the moss from falling out the bottom? Do you put it in the pot and then fill it? The instructions are frustrating!

I filled the pole with moss and buried the bottom 3 inches into my soil. Then I used the metal anchors to help stabilize it.

Q: When you secure the pole in the pot do others fill it all the way with moss or whatever your potting mix is up to the soil level? Does it matter?

I would tend to use potting mix, In my mind, it makes figuring out moisture levels a little easier, because that part of the pole won’t be drawing out as quickly because it’s buried instead of exposed to the air.
