One of my son’s favorite movies! Very kid friendly

Kinda weird. It's definitely a C movie. Parts of it are cute, but it has an odd story line. But it's a kids show and my 3 yr likes it pretty well.

I think this movie is adorable! Honestly, it's cute and I can watch it over and over again. It's my little ones favorite movie and is literally the only movie that I've seen him enjoy so much.

I checked this out on netflix before showing it to my son and I don't know how to feel about this movie.This might be a long review but tldr: Its a weird mis mash of other movies with uneven pacing that will leave you either angry or laughing at yourself for watching it and quite a few parts are inappropriate or scary depending on the age of the child. Alright now on to the review.My son loves the documentary blue planet and apparently the film makers did to so on the positive side its chock full of bottom dwelling fish and ugly creatures most animated companies just skip or ignore. The star is a dumbo octopus who is the grandson of a giant/colossal squid who saved all of the bottom dwelling sea creatures from the end of the world (caused by human pollution apparently and maybe nukes? or war) by sealing them in a large filtered cave at the bottom of the ocean. He hates being sealed in the cage and frequently ventures out much to his grandfathers dismay, he never listens and just does whatever he wants no matter how much he's told not to over and over. He has two friends a female shrimp (looks a lot like a giant isopod to me but I digress), and a male angler fish (how they're microscopic but anyhow) who he also ignores and lies to about venturing out. During their grand festival of survival he gets caught talking about venturing out and is punished by being put on filter cleaning duty and uses this as a chance to sneak out with his friends. Somehow or another he drops a sub missile on their cave traps them in and triggers an underwater eruption causing lava to fill it in and start to cook the inhabitants. His grandfather sends him to find his old friend Moby Dick I mean some white whale that is probably dead and adventure follows! Now one of the main problems with this movie aside from the recycled plot, inappropriate jokes/references, is the horrific pacing and I mean horrific. For example when hes asked to change the sponge filter we see him put one filter in 1 but some how magically all 10 or so of the other ones is filled in. Other times a scene will go on and on when it should have ended shortly after it started , I would never say it wasn't edited because I'm sure a lot of work went into it but yeah someone dropped the ball on pacing. The story being tired and repetitive isn't a big issue for me because like I said I love undersea movies but I could easily see people rolling their eyes, as on top of it being repetitive there just isn't a real sense of urgency. Supposedly all the fish in the sea are being slowly boiled to death in a giant chowder but they have time to stop for a dance competition? Or to play in the toy store??? Also a lot of the conflicts that are meant to pull the story forward just fall flat, why didn't the other fish get out when they had the chance? Why didn't they just swim away from the crabs that attacked them? Little kids might not care but its really annoying to watch as a older kid or an adult, not to mention it makes the characters seem sort of flat and one dimensional. There are a few kinda scary bits like the vampire squid and the zombie fish that might overwhelm a sensitive child not to mention the part where they get eaten but its not that scary. IMHO the animation isn't that bad its not best but its not horrible and there were enough funny bits to keep me entertained while I was working, but would I buy it (you can see it on netflix)? I dunno it was honestly a bit of a let down, I enjoyed seeing all the different species but the characters were kind of annoying like literally all of them. The main character was a jerk who did whatever he wanted and never listened to anyone, the grandpa was kind of a jerk who just kept yelling and not really listening, his "friends" were pretty flat shrimp who everyone ignores but is a dancing queen, angler fish whos afraid of everything, eel that wants to eat everyone and complains a lot. The ending wasn't a let down but it wasn't all that great either but at least it wasn't as hopeless and they kept making you think it was supposed to be. I would watch this with someone just to have a laugh about how terrible it was and point out all the scientific inaccuracies but I don't know that I'd show this to my kid. It seems like the sort of movie kids would like that would annoy the crap out of their parents , its all over the place, full of weird adult jokes (fish eats another fish and vomits it out while pretending to be in labor and then makes a victim shaming joke what???), and is just kinda boring. I only hope other animation studios will use deep sea creatures and do stories like this, because I feel like if another studio did this movie it would have turned out much better its like they had a lot of decent ideas but didn't know what to cut and put most of them in. Oh well not a total waste of time but definitely not all that great either.

Stopped playing after the second day. Too much hassle to send back. I'm gonna stop ordering from Amazon. Cheap companies with cheap goods.
