Good Book for Dash Diet 101
It is exactly what it says it is... for beginners. It is also well written and contains beautiful photography. If you want more than this book offers, I suggest you consider some of the other Dash Diet books Amazon offers along with this one. One of the things you need to think about, is what do you want this diet to do for you. It's a great diet for high blood pressure as well as weight loss. It's focus on healthy eating is also a good reason to include the Dash Diet in your life - this book will help you understand how one diet can do so many things.

Dash Diet for Beginners
As someone with high blood pressure, I found this book packed with informative tidbits and easy-to-follow instructions. I had never heard of the DASH Diet before, and it was interesting to know that it was created by the National Institutes of Health. However, this diet is not just for people with high blood pressure, but can be used as a healthy lifestyle change for anyone, including children, and is beneficial to all.The author, John Chatham, has conveniently laid this book out into sections. The book fully describes the diet, including reasons as to why the diet works and the health benefits it provides, and gives a comprehensive background into the origin of the diet, the studies conducted and the results of those studies. As the book states, โweight loss is just a happy side benefit of the diet.โ It also provides an extensive step-by-step starting plan.The recipes provided are clear and easy-to-follow. In addition to recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the book includes substitutes for yummy treats, chip dip and even chips, so the diet doesnโt leave you feeling denied or unfulfilled. There were even simpler recipes for the busy mom to follow. I enjoyed the well-laid-out and easy-to-read features of this book, and found the information that was provided very enlightening. I canโt wait to try it out!

Good Healthy Start for a Lifetime
I choose this rating for its simplicity in the presentation of the material. This beginners guide to a healthier lifestye is clear and easy to understand. Its straignt forward without implied sales pitches to buy stuff you don't need or want to get you started. You can start right away with what you have on hand. I liked that it mentions a variety of health benefits for a number of health ailments. I only wished that it had offered more appealing recipes.

A Healthy Lifestyle Book
I really loved this book, both for how smart it is about getting healthy, and for how succinctly it says everything it needs to say. DASH Diet For Beginners lays out the basics of the plan, that it is a healthy living plan based on low sodium, healthy fats, and lots of whole foods like lean meat, fruits and veggies, and eggs and low-fat dairy. In addition, it provides a ton of helpful tools to get you into the plan and living it as quickly as possible. Some of my favorites were the calculators for BMI and BMR, to help you get an idea of how much food you should be eating, and how often you should be exercising; also, the Seven-Day Workout Plan is great, especially for people just starting out. I loved the recipes, theyโre a great place to get started.The DASH Diet was created for people looking to lower their blood pressure, ward off heart disease, and get healthy. Weight loss is a side effect of living the lifestyle that the plan lays out. The book touches on the science that went into the plan, but not so much that it bogs you down. Itโs a fun, quick read and it gets you on the path to a healthy life in less than an hour!

Skip it unles you have high blood pressure or diabetes
I was disappointed in this intro. I was expecting more ideas on 30 mins of weight training. I work out every other day and have lessened my aerobic to 30 mins and kept my weight lifting to probably under 10 mins. I have arthritis in my feet and knees so squats, lunges, out of the question. Also, a bit disappointed with the recipes. Seemed so obvious, although I haven't tried making kale chips. Interesting and probably worth $.99.

Very Detailed and Helpful!
The DASH Diet for Beginners by John Chatham provides a very thorough description of what the DASH diet is and how it came to be, in a way that is easy for anyone to understand. Chatham gives details about the best candidates for the diet, which includes just about everyone, as it is a great lifestyle change, but especially those with ailments such as high blood pressure, Type 2 Diabetes, and obesity, to name a few.Chatham describes the thorough experimental studies that were performed by several prestigious hospitals and universities with great detail. He affords the same attention to his description of what exactly the DASH diet is, as well as what it entails, what foods are best (as well as several recipes - I can't wait to try the desserts and the Island Breakfast Smoothie!), a recommended exercise plan, and how to incorporate everything into a new lifestyle. This new lifestyle will provide results in lower blood pressure, weight loss, and an overall sense of well-being.While the DASH diet may seem like a lot of work up front, Chatham breaks things down to make everything seem a lot easier. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in making a lifestyle change for the better.

My Blood Pressure is down and so is my pant size!!!
This book was truly eye opening. It talks about our society and fatty foods. Yes, we all know our habits as a hole is horrible, but this book really brought it to light! It says we should change our way of eating, but on this diet I didn't have to eat stuff I didn't like. I had plenty of options.Some diets are not healthy and as a mother of three, I have to stay healthy to take care of my family. I did a little research on the diet before I bought the book. It was started by the National Institutes of Health so I already knew I was in good hands. After all, the diet isn't to lose weight, it is to be healthier overall. HOWEVER, with being healthier I lost a lot of weight on this diet.There was not many changes I had to do. It taught me how to eat properly but not starve myself or eat nasty tasting foods. Thank you to the NIH for their funding, because without this diet I may have not lived long enough to see my children grow. My blood pressure is now under control and I look good in my size 6!

Not as good as I thought it would be
I bought this book because I have just been diagnosed with high cholesterol. I didn't find it as helpful as I thought I would, it is more applicable to the American reader, sadly.
