Chalkboards arrived quickly and well-packed. The slate surface is fine enough to use as a chalkboard, but not as smooth as an old-time polished slate classroom chalkboard (remember the squeaking chalk?). The surfaces are much smoother than the shingle type slates available. The wood is light weight and the corners have coarse mitering with putty filled gaps, lending to a rustic, antiqued appearance.The boards come with two styles of hanging hardware, loops for picture-wire (not provided), and a toothed bar. Either would be fine given the light weight of the boards, but I chose the picture-wire, as it makes the boards reversible.I did find that I had to clean the slates of some residue (putty spots?), but the residue came right off. If you're looking for heirloom quality hardwood woodworking, you will be disappointed. These are rustic, as described.Overall, I'm very happy with the seller, product quality, and accuracy of the product description.

This is nicely framed, real slate, which is what I was hoping for, but broke lengthwise by the end of the first week. putting a back on it might help but I liked that both sides could be used. Using it for home school, despite the break because the frame is so good. I think a slightly shorter length might be the ticket, since I really didn't think I put any undo pressure or twisting on it. So slate is a bit more fragile than I thought. I wanted slate because the slate experience is better for kinesthetic experience than a white board.

These are awesome. The quality for the price is great. I wish the surface was a little smoother, but considering it's natural slate and supposed to be rustic it's more of a note than a complaint. The stain on the wood kinda wiped off a little, so combined with the not-so-smooth surface leeches a star from the product, but I'm extremely happy with it and would order it again.

Wood is splintery, uneven and moldy (Yep. You read that). Slate appears to be used and was still drawn on (although slightly worn away) and stained.On a positive note: It was packaged securely and arrived in a timely manner. Also, the slate is rustic and charming. Just wish the frame was all around better. I'd buy it again with a better frame.

I was so excited when this arrived at my house, however the box was damaged and therefor the chalkboard was broken (I don’t think this was the sellers fault. The whole box looked like it had been smashed several times and there was a big hole in the side of the box)The frame was great and the size is exactly what I wanted. It was very easy to set up a return and am going to purchase again today and hope my next one arrives in one piece!

This thing is SO cheap, and the surface so uneven, it's hard to write anything legible on it. I made so much dust, even with dustless chalk, because of all the ridges in the "slate" surface. The wood frame edges were rough, even cracked off in places, and could splinter if you dragged your finger pad over them. I NEVER return Amazon items because of the hassle, but this one is in the box going back.

The wood came cracked and looks like the chalk board had been used before. There was chalk the wasnt all the way erased on the board itself. I would rather just go to Hobby Lobby and get a better bang for my buck. I would never buy this product again. Very disappointed.

I like the look of this chalkboard very much! Solidly built (I do keep out of reach of my toddlers though, so that they do not drop and crack). It arrived in a timely fashion, well packaged, but did need a good wipe down before the first use (not complaining, just an observation). I am using for 1st days of school for my children and other milestones. A very useful item; I would buy again if needed!
