Would be excellent except for a couple of niggles
Overall very pleased and certainly a boost to performance when in use. Can't say that I really noticed any improvement in start up time but most of that seems to be taken up by the BIOS anyway! existing system had a single 2TB HDD & I installed this in the 2nd HDD bay. 1st niggle was that the holes provided in the 3.5" mounting bracket do not align with the standard HDD mounting holes so I had to remove the entire HDD cage & take it into the garage to drill another hole. 2nd niggle concerns the cloning process. NOT mentioned in the instructions (or not that I've found anyway) is that for Windows 8 & above BEFORE you start the cloning process you need to disable "Secure Boot" mode, I'm running Windows 10 ! Then after cloning is complete power down & disconnect existing C Drive. After powering back up the system should then boot from the SSD as OS (C). Power down again, reconnect the HDD & reboot. HDD should now show as OS (D), or similar.

I bought the Stand-Alone Drive for £62. 98 and ...
I bought the Stand-Alone Drive for £62.98 and used it to to upgrade 3 year old laptop. What's in the box:1x Kingston 240GB SSD1x 3.5" bracket4x mounting screwsHard drive cloning software - download coupon1x 7mm-9.5mm adapter1x HyperX sticker1x Getting Started booklet in 33 languages (excluding the pictorial guide)I did not use the enclosed Activation Key for the Acronis True Image HD Software (which can be downloaded from: [...]) as I was performing a clean install of Windows 10 to the laptop.Boot times showed a huge improvement, however in general usage, the laptop still sometimes appears a bit slow, but this is due to the processor and RAM and in no way reflects on the SSD.My only gripe is that the Kingston® SSD Manager (available from: [...]) is not particularly advanced especially when compared to Samsung's SSD Manager.Kingston® SSD Manager Description:Kingston® SSD Manager is an application that provides users with the ability to monitor and manage various aspects of their Kingston® Solid State Drive. With Kingston SSD Manager you will be able to:Monitor drive health, status, and disk usageView drive identification data including model name, serial number, firmware version, and other relevant informationUtilize Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) and export detailed reports in text formatUpdate drive firmwareSecurely erase dataManage TCG Opal and IEEE 1667Supported Operating Systems:Kingston® SSD Manager is supported on the following operating systems:Windows® 10Windows® 8.1Windows® 8Windows® 7 SP1

Fast as lightning savage 480 GB SSD
Update : ssd failed in a major way after 10 months however exchanged with replacement without question. Still a great product apart from this unfortunate and sudden event. No warning it just failed in a terminal fashion .Wow where do I start. Well Firstly the product was easy to install internally within my Laptop however it can be used externally with the supplied casing. How I use it and my experienceI used this as my main boot drive with Windows 10 and a second compartment boot drive containing Linux. The solid state drive just contained my main OS and software such as adobe creative cloud. All other stored files I produced were stored on a second STANDARD hard drive.Boot time increased from several minutes to several seconds... Yes its very fast. So if your looking for performance and speed with boot times as well as with loading large software packages such as Premiere Pro its certainly going to improve your computers performance.I love it and haven't looked backed!

Brilliant piece of kit
The process of upgrading a hdd to an sdd is easy with this kit.I backed up my documents, music, photos and videos to an external hdd and then deleted them from my 1tb hdd. I was left with 280gb on the hdd. I then downloaded acronis from the Kingston website - 221mb, took 10 minutes to install. I inserted the ssd into the usb3 case that comes with the kit and attached to the desktop. The ssd was not recognised by the pc but acronis found it with no trouble. The clone of 280gb took about 30 minutes.I then took the ssd out of the usb3 case and screwed it into the 2.5 to 3.5 cage. Put it in a spare 3.5 space and connected the power and sata cables. I disconnected the sata and power cables from the old hdd. Booted the pc an 30 seconds later it had finished loading. Everything worked perfectly. Turned off the pc and reconnected the old hdd. Booted into bios to make sure that the ssd was first priority. It was, even that worked brilliantly! I then formatted the old hdd - quick format over in seconds. Create a folder with my username on the hdd and then sub folders for documents, music, photos, videos and downloads. Go into c: users/username and move the document etc folders to the hdd. Copy documents etc back onto the hdd. Around 300gb copied back to the documents, music, photo and video libraries in about 3 hours.Everything went really well, done in an afternoon and the pc is so much faster. I thoroughly recommend this kit. It has all that you need to make the best upgrade you can to your pc.
