A really good book.

Just perfect

The Introduction to this book makes frequent reference to a recording, for the purpose of learning pronunciation, which the author recommends listening to. No such recording accompanied the book.

I have several "Teach Yourself" books, they're all very good. Just a word of advice on those who claim no CD. The back cover will tell you to go to: library.teachyourself.com---once there, type in language you want to hear and bingo!. Hope it helps any misunderstandings.

Book arrived damaged I’m not pleased.

Absolutely loving my time with the book so far. You can feel that you are in the hands of a master. You can tell Mr. Radice cares so much about promoting the Bengali language which is touching. This is a book for serious learners only. The accompanying free audio support online is incredible as well. Teach Yourself is truly a wonderful brand that genuinely cares about language learning. I will treasure this resource forever, thank you. It is also so rare to see a language learning book include prominent works of literature from the real world, in that language, for even more practice, which is at the end of the book. Truly a nice touch.

Truth be told I bought this book 6 months prior to actually grappling with it as I found it quite daunting at first with the Sanskritic script, which is quite a challenge for those of us who are used to the Anglo languages. But suffice to say after really sitting myself down to understand the script; which is extremely important might I add for how the rest of this book is laid out, it is absolutely brilliant. Periodic gems scattered throughout to help you understand the small details that will help you aspire for fluency as well as countless translations of conversations that are ideal for each chapters difficulty. I can’t speak for the other languages on offer but William Radice’s Bengali is a great beginner resource for those looking for a comprehensive breakdown of one of Asia’s most popular Sanskritic languages.

I bought this CD set in 2016. Today I tried 2 CDs on my computer. CD1 id fine bur CD2 has nothing. Maybe someone who sold this CD set to the dealer knowingly sold this CD. The seller must have over written the contents by mistake. I want to ask for the refund but I fear it's too late.

Leider steht nirgendwo im Buch ein Link zum Audio. Bei der Google-suche gibt es eine Sicherheitswarnung, weil es auch gefakte Seiten gibt. Bei einem Buch, welches aktiv die Arbeit mit Audio einfordert ist das am anfang echt nervig ... nach einer Stunde habe ich dann die App gefunden, danach war alles gut. Setzt allerdings auch ein Smarthphone mit ausreichend Speicher voraus und ist nicht 100% bedienerfreundlich. Nachtrag: was leider erst im Verlauf des Kurses klar wird. Es wird hauptsächlich Bengali aus West Bengal (Indien) gelehrt. Bengali aus Bangladesh wird nur gelegentlich am Rande erwähnt. Ohne einen Muttersprachler und ohne Audio würde ich nur einen Stern geben. Das Audio ist unverzichtbar, der Muttersprachler auch, wenn man plant in Bangladesh zu sprechen

Book is certainly good for some one eager to learn the language

I was looking for a book to learn the language including the script. I didn't want to learn with transliterations only. With some patience and dedication I was able to make huge progress in a short time (but you have to practice regularly!) I was able to find the audio tracks online very quickly, which made up for the fact that there is no CD.
