Chess ROYAL MAXI, Solid Wood, Set

Those wanting a top quality chess set (pieces and board) should look elsewhere. Those wanting a decent size, usable travel set of acceptable quality for a very reasonable price could do far worse than buy this set.As others have noted, it isn't heavy. But, honestly, did you really expect ebony and ivory for the amount this costs? One things's for sure, it's a darn site more pleasurable using this set than one with plastic pieces and a cardboard board.The styling of the pieces is a like-it-or-loathe-it affair. If I have one criticism in this respect, it''s that the board and it's lettering doesn't really complement the pieces. But that's being picky. For this price, the fact that the board is wooden, folds, and has tailored spaces to house the pieces when travelling is enough to recommend it.Don't buy this if you want to use it as a centrepiece on a room setting. But give it serious thought if you want a travel set which isn't too small for full-size fingers, or a set to have beside you while you're learning or studying classic games.

I can't agree with other reviewers who enthuse over the quality of this set. When I first felt the overall weight on delivery I thought that perhaps the pieces weren't included - it really was that light. I guess my point is don't expect a chess set of any substance.But that aside, this set does provide decent value for money, the pieces are of good enough size, as is the board. I'd certainly recommend this as a starter chess set and also as an ideal full sized travel set due to it's light weight construction and it being able to fold in half for storage.

I enjoy many nights in front of the fire playing chess, which is not something I've ever done before in my life! It's hard to win, though. But this chess set makes it enjoyable because the pieces are a good size and comfortable to use. I particularly like the way you can pack your pieces away for safekeeping. I would only say that the board needs a bit more sanding as it's squares are sometimes uneven and so moving pieces can fall over sometimes. But otherwise, it's great!

This set was higher quality than I expected. The board is lovely and the pieces are well made (although not in my favourite style). This set is easy to transport; the pieces fit into the slots well and the whole thing is light and easy to put in a bag or just carry.I own much fancier sets (which were obviously a lot more expensive), I bought this set to use when travelling and for teaching young cousins. For both these purposes it is ideal and I would definiitely recommend as a nice beginner set. Much better quality than others I've seen at a similar price.

I was looking for a simply designed chess set for a young couple to play in their camper - i liked this as the pieces are all jumbled together when inside the folded board case - they each have a lined place to sit waiting for the next match! Its a decent size to play but compact when stored - all round excellent value for a starter / travel set

Great chess set. Loved the shapes and the box is solid. Would recommend this product. Thinking of purchasing another one. This one was bought as a Christmas present for the grandchildren. One grandson age 8 years loved it and has been playing chess ever since, even winning against his Dad. Would definatley recommend.

Bought for Grandson. Pieces and board are a good size. Like the way the chess pieces are stored in the box and hopefully cannot get lost. Reasonably good quality for price.

This is a nice little chess board bought for a Father's Day gift. I love that it stores the pieces so you can take it anywhere without loosing anything. I would recommend this board as a general board for play, not so much as a decorative item, I'd invest more wonga for something a little more special for a decorative board.
