Delicious to Make, Delightful to Read and Yes, It's Doable!
I have always loved the presentation of Japanese food, so quirky and elegant with an interesting almost 'tapas' like feel. This wonderfully well written cookbook by Kimiko Barber is AMAZING and INSPIRING. And the good news is that you really can make most everything in your own home. I am particularly delighted to share that page 126 features a pan seared Yellowtail Teriyaki that is complete perfection. Who knew that you can make a fresh and vastly better than anything at Whole Foods Teriyaki Sauce with just 4 ingredients. What a learning. There is an extensive range of recipes, including ones for salad dressings (i love Japanese flavored dressings, with their complexity between sweet and salty, citrusy and bright and have never been able to figure out how to make them on my own) and wonderful side dishes. For example the french green beans with a black sesame dressing is beyond delicious. Whether for yourself or for a little dinner party or even summer American bbq, this is a sure to impress choice, both visually and taste-wise. There are many many options and ideas as this book is quite generous in its offerings. And the matte paper the book is printed on is so nice too.Additionally, each recipe, whether for a main, a side, soup or sushi offers literal step by step instruction (should you desire it) on how to make the presentation on the plate (or bowl or whatever) look gorgeous. She gets as specific as to say which corner of the plate the vegetable sides should sit - - and it actually makes sense! Have enjoyed reading so much of the book already and am planning next to make my first sushi EVER from it. If i can do this, so can you!

Vastly Ignored, Amazing Book
This book is not only a great introduction to Japanese cooking at home but REALLY well laid out. I'm so sad that it hasn't gotten the attention it deserves! I found it in perfect condition at a used book store and now it's going to be my #1 cookbook recommendation to all my foodie friends.
