Looking Back at Traditional Cargo Ships

Another excellent work from Amadeus and its authors/photographers.
I have a healthy collection of Amadeus works and the images, quality and captions are superb. This acquisition, was an Amazon temptation. On buying another book, this plus several others popped up. I was overjoyed with this book as it had images of several ships, I have connections with. Panaghia P, page 37, dad was chief engineer on her when she was the Pinto. Zelengora p 47, dad was 2nd engineer on her, when she was the Bristol City. Germania ex Kittiwake, p 50. Dad was a second and chief engineer on her sister ships, built by Cammel Lairds. Finally, Irini, p 16, her sister ship the former Temple Hall, is the forelorn rusting hulk, just outside Aricife harbour, which I have passed many times. Conections or otherwise, these are wonderful photos of pristine cargo liners or rusting trampships.

this book brought back many happy (and some sad) memories of a time when Britain ...
As a marine engineerof a certain age, this book brought back many happy (and some sad) memories of a time when Britain had a Merchant Navy to be proud of. These were the type of ship I mainly sailed on and the advent of containerisation drove me ashore. They spent a long time in port so that we actually managed to see something of the places we visited. The book itself is well presented and the photographs are excellent; if only I had taken my camera on more trips!Highly recommended if you are nostalgic for a different way of life.

Another very well produced book doing just what the title ...
Another very well produced book doing just what the title implies using very well taken photographs to illustrate these now very rare ships every photograph comes with a very informative caption, ships featured were built around the British coast and some from yards elsewhere in the world but not one of them is a functional plug ugly that's for sure.

Nostalgic look back at traditional cargo vessels.
A wonderful selection of photos of what cargo vessels looked like before the ugly 'Box boats' arrived, with full histories with each vessel. If you were at sea in the 1950s, 60s & 70s or just an enthusiast of ships of that era, then you are sure to enjoy this book.

When humble cargo-carriers looked good.
A welcome addition to a growing collection of a period when ships were not only functional, but in many cases creations of beauty. The subject ,of course, could cover many volumes.
