Prewetts Chicory Drink Organic 100g

I use this as a coffee substitute. Mix 1 1/2 tsps with 1/2 tsp of cocoa/cocao powder & top with milk/almond milk/cream. Can be adjusted to taste, if bitter. I sometimes add brown sugar to the mix, as well for a boost of energy. Occasionally top with squirty cream (from a can) and sprinkle with cocoa powder/cinnamon powder to replicate a cappuccino! Nice on a winter's morning & leaves me feeling less jittery/cranky than full caffeine coffee.

Very much like coffee, I use it exactly the same way. Helps sleep

OK for a caffeine free coffee alternative. Unfortunately I can't drink tea or coffee since becoming histamine intolerant, so now have this. I've got used to the taste now.

Really pleased to find a chicory drink that is gluten free. (Be careful if you are coeliac, most chicory drinks contain barley, presumably because they can then be produced more cheaply.) I cannot take coffee any more, but I really enjoy this drink. Some reviewers say it is bitter, but I make it with half a cup of the original (sweetened) soya milk. The instructions on the jar say use three to four teaspoonsful. In my opinion this is far too much, and if that is what people are using no wonder it tastes bitter! One teaspoon dissolved in half a cup of milk is just about right for a perfect coffee alternative.I dissolve the powder in the milk, give it 35 seconds in the microwave, then top it up with boiling water, and honestly, it's delicious.

I can't tell you how much I love this stuff. Firstly forget everything you think you know about Chicory coffee - my only experience was with Camp coffee at my Grans years ago. This is nothing like that!! I love coffee but it didn't love me - I have IBS and coffee would often set me off so I was looking around for an alternative. I bought this in desperation only because it had good reviews. I am a complete convert - even if I could have coffee I would rather have this. Added benefit it is good for you, chicory is an excellent source of prebiotics to encourage the good bacteria to grow in the gut, and secondly I think it helps keep hunger at bay. Really excellent product that I will be buying in bulk as can't get it out in Spain.

Used to have this 30+ years ago and thought I'd rekindle my liking for it... this isn't as strong. Its ok but I won't be buying another jar

This is an enjoyable hot drink but in my opinion it doesn't work as a coffee alternative because it tastes different than coffee. For me this doesn't work as a morning wake up drink because it has no caffeine. Chicory is it's only ingredient. This is more bitter than coffee is. When I first tried this I made it black without sugar because that's how I like my coffee but I found if you have this black with no sugar it is a lot more bitter than coffee. It's still an ok drink that way but through experimentation I have fund the best way to enjoy it for me is with coffee mate and sugar. I found that brown sugar works best. It makes the drink less sweet but adds a flavour to it that I really like. When I tried this with milk as it suggests on the jar I didn't like it with or without sugar. I hate sugar in real coffee but in this it works very well because without sugar it is a lot more bitter than coffee. If someone served me this and didn't tell me what it was I would be able to tell that it's not real coffee. I bought this because I wanted a coffee alternative that I can drink in the evening that doesn't have any caffeine so that it wouldn't stop me from sleeping. I bought this instead of buying decaff coffee because I wanted something that is completely caffeine free. Decaff coffee still has some caffeine in it. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a nice hot drink that can be enjoyed at anytime of day. Just be aware that it's more bitter than coffee and even if you prefer your coffee black with no sugar you may not prefer this made the same way.
