Works good
You will have to snap the plug onto the wire which is done so you can fit the wire through a hole in a safe for example. I bought this for my ammunition safes and the overall humidity did go down.

If plastic can stand the temp of the rod then these should be fine. I read as many of the negative comments ...
For me to give a 5 the product would have to exceed all expectations. The installation of the plug onto the wire seemed a little iffy - but as it arrived I simply CAREFULLY inserted the wire into the plug and slid the 2 pieces together. Within 5 minutes the rod was warm to the touch. I used magnetic curtain rod holders instead of gluing or screwing into the inside of the cabinet. If plastic can stand the temp of the rod then these should be fine.I read as many of the negative comments as I could - but I have had this safe for 20 years and had little problem with moisture until lately. I think it's because I don't enter it as often as I used to. I run a room dehumidifier in the room during spring and summer because there is also ammunition and powder cabinets in the room. Winter season this room is close to the furnace room so it's pretty dry in there. If I was to add anything else it would be a small fan to circulate air - there are two separate holes in the base of my safe allowing for wires for accessories so there is enough room to recycle air. If this stops some of the mold from forming on leather slings or on old unvarnished furniture I will be happy.I have a degree in bio-science but I am not going to measure and compare humidity. I am simply going to judge is this better than it was before. It will be months before I can honestly say this has failed. Right now it's warmer in the safe and I elevated the safe above the floor to allow air circulation and to keep from pinching wires. Now for that little fan?

Works as stated
Using it in the Pacific Northwest. These heaters work as stated, sure beats taking items out cleaning and oiling, if you should forget every once and a while.

HOT!
I live in Florida so these things are an unfortunate necessity in my gun safes. Just beware that when this thing is plugged in it gets fairly warm. I wouldn't go in and grab this thing with my bare hand, that's for sure. In one of my safes it sits horizontally on the floor of the safe in the front and I do my best to keep the rifles away from touching it. Not that I think it would harm too much but I don't want to take the chance that it would put a burn spot in the wood or melt a synthetic stock over time. I use this in combination with drying pellets and I don't see rust or any corrosion on any of my firearms.

This Products Works Very Well
I liked this product for the ease of installation. This dehumidifier worked immediately. You can tell whether or not a dehumidifier is working by the heat being emitted by the bar. It is not hot enough to burn you, but it is warm to the touch. If I needed another dehumidifier, I would purchase it from this company.

Would give 3.5 stars if I could
The product itself isn't what I expected the first one wouldn't heat up and the second isn't much better I will say at least it heats enough to work hopefully. I would have given one star cause I don't think it's helping my safe keep moisture out but I have to say there customer service is top notch they were very responsive and sent me out the replacement very quick. So I probably wouldn't buy this one again but if they made a better one I wouldn't hesitate purchasing a product they make

It works, but...
It works, but you might need another strategy, depending on where you live.I live in an older home in the Pacific Northwest. It's damp here, particularly in the winter. Even with a house dehudifier going, my humidity is still at nearly 70%. Im using the 18" rod inside a 14 cubic foot safe. The gun saver knocked down the humidity to 62% inside my safe. 50%-55% is ideal. I'm going to use a rechargeable, silica bead dehumidifier to help.Just keep in mind that you should keep a dedicated hygrometer inside your safe to monitor humidity. This is not necessarily a "one and done" exercise. You might need more. It all depends on what humidity level you're starting at.

Adds Moisture
Did not come as advertised it show on the picture a gold colored rod but it's a black rod if you want the gold colored rod you have to orderGoldenRod "ORIGINAL" GunSaver Dehumidifier I didn't realize this till I did some research on the web. As far as if it's working it's too soon to tell but what I can say is I had it plugged in for two hours and used a electronic thermometer that has 3 settings body, room and surface. I checked the temp of the room my safe was in and then I checked inside the safe both read the same temp, so I waited for another 2 hrs and switched it to surface I checked the outside surface of my gun safe and the inside surface of my gun safe both had the same reading. So I'm going to check the barrel with it off after a couple hours and turn the dehumidifier back on and wait 2 days and check the same barrel of the same rifle to see if theres a change with the surface mode on my temp reader. My temp reader is brand new only a couple months old and is 100% accurate. I will update in a couple days but so far I think it's snake oil and some people think it works but we will see sure the bar is warm and my safe is 17W x 13'D x 53"H so the 12 inch should work perfectly but we shall see in a couple days I really want to give this a try.UPDATE: I picked up a humidity electronic reader only because it felt way more humid and bang it hit me the staleness of my SKS and Mosin Nagant slings in the cabinet almost floored me with the goldenrod turned on they never smelt stale before using this golden rod and sure enough it was 27% more humidity I shut off the goldenrod and the humidity decreased substantially to 3% turned it back on again and the humidity increased back up to 27% again and it makes sense basements are cooler but they need something warm to create humidity. Cool and warm creates moisture sure the bar is hot to the touch but all it's doing is adding warm air with cool air in the locker and creates moisture. Your best bet is oil your guns and avoid this product. I suggest you do the test yourself to determine weather it will work for you or not but I can tell you for Northern Alberta which is a cooler climate it did not work at all. I feel sorry for the ones that already live in a humid climate using this product like I said before oil your guns inside and out if you don't shoot all that often and leave a little extra oil in the barrel than you normally would when running a patch through, just make sure you run an extra couple dry patches through before shooting don't forget if you choose to use that method instead like most of our fathers and grandfathers did before the rod was ever invented.

Meh
Bought this for a gift. Gets the job done. Just not as quickly as one would like.

Works great and easy to set up
Easy to set up, including mounting legs and simple "slide in" connecting of power cord to wall plug, after threading the power cord througha hole in the safe wall or floor. Works great, getting warm to the touch, but never "hot", so pretty safe.

Would buy again
