Not starling proof but best I have found to make it difficult for them!
The media could not be loaded. We have a squirrel problem and starlings this year are SO bad. They were eating a big suet in less than a week-usually last approx a month. A small suet a day. I switched both my small and big suet cakes to upside down feeders. It took about a month to bring back all of my wood peckers and have them adjust to the new way of feeding. Be patient they will come back. Chickadees & nuthatches found it the quickest and like it.I couldn’t find a large upside down suet feeder at a reasonable price till I came across this one. Happy with quality. Made my own gutter hanger from a coat hanger and hung on gutters and it keeps squirrels 100% off from it. Not starling proof but they have trouble staying on it for more than a 4-5 seconds. So it doesn’t completely keep them off from it but they have a hard time-very satisfying. Lol They are landing on it less and less. They also like to feed from the sides and this feeder prevents that. Also recommend buying whole peanut cakes-no mess on the ground and it attracts so many woodpeckers. They love it especially the pileated.

Blackbirds still able to eat suet
I got this because supposedly ravens or grackles are deterred since they have to hang upside down. Well not in Ohio, they are determined or hungry enough they don’t care and I see them hanging upside down. I enjoy seeing the woodpeckers but these birds keep them away so I had to take it down.

Bye bye starlings
My feeders were taken over by starlings this year, and they were bullying out all the birds I actually wanted to see. These upside down feeders keep the suet where they can’t can’t get to it, and they almost instantly disappeared! The nuthatches caught on right away, and the downy woodpeckers followed. I don’t know if the bigger red bellied woodpeckers will take to it, but I’m hoping they will.

Birds have a hard time finding this.
The product looks nice. I have had it hung up for a month now and have not seen a single bird. even try to access it. I have tried several locations high and low, under cover of branches and hanging out in the open. No luck.My vertical suet feeder is getting attention.

Not practical
Placed it in an area frequented by woodpeckers and didn’t attract a single woodpecker in 2 months. Woodpeckers are not inclined to fly around looking up to find food.

No more grackles or starlings
Woodpeckers, finches, and chickadees have all utilized this.

Well built and safe for the birdies, but
... absolutely none of them use it. I bought it because a local gang of starling tuffs keeps decimating everything I put out for the other gang of assorted woodpeckers. I guess my woodpecker friends must either be too dumb to figure out where the food is or they have serious reservations about hanging upside down while they eat. Regardless of why, this has ended up being a sturdy, lovely, well-stocked feeder that never empties out. I wish we'd had more luck with it.
