A Depressing Love Story
I picked up one of these Puck Lights on the cheap. The light would not 'open' up because it was jammed. No problem, I thought. I would just pry it open with a wedge. Turns out I had to smack it against a concrete surface to pop the lamp open. (No scuffs! +1 for durability). After the initial opening, I was able to open and close it with less hassle, though it seems if you close the unit for too long, it is prone to getting stuck again. So right off the bat, the product loses a star in terms of reliability and ease of use. So now for the review. The Coleman Puck Light is about the size of two hockey picks stacked on top of one another. Or, a jumbo sized can of tuna. Take your pick. It is water resistant, but I would not submerge it or leave it out in the rain anyways. A light misting is all I would honestly trust it for. There are three feet underneath to keep the bottom on/off button (and belly light) off the ground. When the unit is compacted, the light will not turn on. So you can pack away with peace of mind. The top ring can unhook (and can also be used to pull open the light, but be careful not to damage the half-ring). The unit itself has an exterior or rubberized plastic and smooth plastic (center bezel). It's pleasing to look at, and is a simple no-frill design. There are no batteries to replace. Instead, a li-ion battery is housed in the main body, and you can charge the unit via micro-usb cable in the back. It is plugged up by an opaque white port plug that is also permanently attached to the unit. It is rather flimsy and falls out easily, gets caught up in my gear when packing and ultimately just falls out of the unit. This is why I would not put the lamp out in a downpour or even medium amounts of rain- water will likely seep into the port and corrode the contacts. It was a decent idea to make it rechargeable, but either recess the port and put in a rubber stopper, or make a slide lock with O-rings to protect the port more! The product loses another star here. After plugging in the unit for five hours (It's red while charging, green when fully charged. Note, I don't know how long it takes to charge as I was gone for the full five hours.) I decided to give it a longevity test. I decided to try it out on low setting- reportedly 30+ hours of use. I did a first stint of about 4 hours on low (low main lamp, button led is on also). No issues, no overheating, etc. So I did another 24 hours nonstop, including a few tests (carrying around outside, switching to high, rolling on the floor and letting my dog chase it) and it stayed on. No flickering, no dimming. After the 24 hours, I turned it off. It had done an accumulated 30 hours on low, and still going strong. Already it exceeded the advertised battery life on paper, so I'm going to go ahead and say YES, the battery life is great. Whether or not the shelf life and life expectancy is up to par, still has yet to be decided.Light output is also good. I used it to navigate the house with ease with all lights off, walk my dog and pick up his poop on the low settings. (FYI, low is 50 lumens, high is 250. You can also toggle the belly light by cycling through the settings if you only need a downwards light- in this case, the batteries would last even longer than 30 consecutive hours, which is great.)I plan on using this lamp in conjunction with my goal zero solar panels- let it charge for a few hours during the day and easily illuminate the place at night and not having to worry about using my batteries. So yes. This lamp performs great. But the execution in its manufacturing (hard to open!) and design (charge port!) really hobble this potential winner. In spite of it, I think this lamp has great potential, but would need a second generation release in order to get that 5 star mark from me.

Expensive: Quality is poorly made!!! High Priced...
I should of check out the reviews before buying, issue one: trying to pull it up to get the light on was impossible for so I ask my husband to pull the light in the up position he could not do it we ended up putting the light in the refrigerator I thought maybe it was swollen from the humidity kind of funny because it is plastic shouldn't have that problem but it did work finally got to pull it all the way up, now i don't dare push it down. The tap was stuck, it got damage, that is where you charge it now it won't be covered, went to return this item and the company wanted me to pay for shipping, not right this is a poor quality item would not recommen it. High price better ones out there for less.

Our bigger lantern is now used a lot less because is so easy to use this one
This is the first light we pull out and use when camping. Have had no problems with it. Our bigger lantern is now used a lot less because is so easy to use this one. We also like having the light on the bottom when it is hanging.

Opening is a problem
I too am having problems with getting it open...after having read the other review, I'm on my way to smash it against a cement surface since prying doesn't work. The previous reviewer mentioned that this may be an ongoing problem..if it is, I'm going to regret this purchase!
