- Abies nordmanniana ssp equi-trojani, known as the Turkish Fir, is a rare endemic from North Western Turkey, found only on the slopes of Mount Ida, overlooking the ancient ruins of Troy. Closely related to the more common Nordmann Fir, the differences are mainly in the young shoots of the tree. The tree is only found naturally in an area of around 165 Km2, although conservation efforts in Turkey have led to several plantations in order to maintain the population of the trees.
- It is a large evergreen coniferous tree growing to 55–61 m tall and with a trunk diameter of up to 2 m. It is an attractive tree, with densely packed needles which do not drop if the tree is cut down.
