Review: An excellent book which really digs in deep into the code ... - An excellent book which really digs in deep into the code behind WordPress. Explains in depth how to set up a locally hosted WordPress install. In depth explanations of the Core and the Loop, Custom Posts and Taxonomies, Plugin and Theme development, multi-site, migration and a whole lot more are all explained in great detail whilst still being easy enough to understand. Some knowledge of HTML and CSS would be an advantage and some PHP and MySQL coding experience would help for the more advanced topics. Over 440 pages so good value for money. Highly recommended. Review: ... stars because it is a comprehensive book and is good for seasoned developers - I have given this book 5 stars because it is a comprehensive book and is good for seasoned developers. However, I must emphasise that in my opinion this is definitely not a book for beginners. If you at not a developer or a programmer, then this book is not for you. This a very complex and code heavy book. I am completely lost because I have no knowledge of MySQL or PHP scripting language, or in fact any other code except a little HTML. The clues is in the title "Professional", "Design and Development".

Good Book, it remains clear on a tricky subject
The books good, very informative & clear..... but wordpress is a pretty insecure system if not kept up to date & monitored , & tweaked, & fiddled, & nurtured, & watched, & regularly checked on. I won't be using WordPress, as I will be doing the site "maintenance" in-house, & I don't want to have to level too much time at a website... but if you do plan to use wordpress this book would be a good reference. This book is a goodun.

So glad I've finally got this book.
I develop mostly for WordPress and this is a book I wish I'd got years ago to save me much time and effort muddling through the codex, forums and outdated blog posts. I waited a few months for the updated version as the WordPress backend admin and core has changed more than slightly since the 2nd edition was published, this new edition has updated chapters on Theme Development, focuses more on using WordPress ambitiously as an App Framework, going beyond the CMS. Really good read with great examples and I'm sure it will be my bible going forward with WordPress in 2015.

Great book with everything you need to know about WP ...
Great book with everything you need to know about WP development. Good for all levels, but it will be much easier to grasp if you have knowledge of programming in general as well as PHP, MySQL, HTML etc.

WordPress Developer Bible
It's a dry read but it's thorough and as close as there is to what could be considered a WordPress bible. Definitely one for the developers or aspiring developers more that content producers/business owners.

Well laid out
It's extremely informative, quite technical. Not really for the basic user of Wordpress.
