Can you return up to a year with the warranty if these crap out?

AmazonBasics cables are covered by a 1-year limited warranty. Simply contact Amazon Support if you have issues with the cable within a year of purchase. That said, while I have had AmazonBasics cables die, it's usually 2 or 3 years after purchase. I've only used Amazon's AmazonBasics warranty once in all the years I have bought from them.

What is the wire gauge of the power conductors in these cables?

Is more than likely 28awg like most cheap micro usb cables.

Is this cable water proof?

I wouldn't get water in the connecting parts when connected to my tablet. The cord itself could be but why would a waterproof cord be needed?
