Are they plastic backing

Yes they are. (The "cloth" backing is on the "Premium" M4.)

Are these good for night use?

Absolutely fantastic. The tapes hold really really and it doesn't leak you'll be fine

What these medium size?

They fit from a 28" inch waist to I'd say at least a 36" 38" , I'm a 28" waist and the tapes are nearly touching, but these are great I highly recommend.
