Just how good are these?

If it doesn't bother you that the part of the sock which is closest to your toes rolling up and pressing in on your sole, then its ok. I found it to be a little irritating since the roll comes right under your instep so each time you feel it when you walk. A better solution would be a connector material to keep the part under the ball of the foot anchored in place with a toe piece. According to my doctor, for weak veins you need 20-30 mmHg for healing- however these will do in a pinch except for the front band not staying in place and rolling up. Fashion wise it is pretty sheer so it looks almost like you are not wearing a support hose. I will keep mine as it is good for emergency back up and can be used with some sandals, albeit the rolling issue. Hope this helps. It depends on your medical needs- ask your doctor which range of compression is best of your medical issues.

Is this the same absolute support brand claiming to be sold by dss?

I do not know what dss is but they are as good as the more expensive knee highs
