Too expensive
I loved the game. The story is a slow burn but gets intriguing once it picks up. But damn.... 12000 for the disc with the discount? This is some ridiculous pricing. And it's not even a steelbook or special edition. Buy your copy digital or get a PlayStation Plus subscription and download it for free.

Ys at its best
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is the best Ys game I have played yet, and I own all of the games on PC and Vita.In Ys VIII you play as Adol Christin, an adventurer with red hair and a knack for getting into sticky situations. This time, Adol is stranded on a deserted island inhabited with dangerous beasts. Your objective on this island? to save stranded citizens, build an operating base, and fill in your map (just like Ys VII). I will not spoil the story but know its not all lollipops and sunshine. People will die, and there is plenty of drama- as you can expect from being stranded on an island with strangers and monsters. Overall Story- 10/10The combat is very fun but can take some getting used to. There are three attack types- Slash, Strike, and Shoot (pierce). During combat you will have to switch in-between the three to topple your foes and earn bonuses. Adol is a slash character and wields and sword, Laxia is a pierce character who wields a rapier, and Sahad is a strike type who uses and anchor. The combat is fast paced and incredibly enjoyable as you can assign attack skills and do EXTRA attacks to deal massive damage. Overall Combat- 10/10The game is beautiful and of course has that typical Falcom design. Character portraits are designed like anime characters and are beautifully drawn. Environments are pretty basic but still stand out and are enjoyable to explore. Of course this is the PS4 version so naturally it looks better than the Vita, but the Vita version looks good too from what I've seen. I have experienced zero frame rate issues in my 30 hours of gameplay. Overall visuals- 8/10This game really did exceed my expectations and is one of the best games I've played all year. My amazon score is a 5 out of 5 because I absolutely love it and know you will too!! Also, the game comes with an art book, sound track, and reversible cover art. Buy it!!

This is what old school RPG supposed to be like, FREAKING FUN!!!
Fantastic game, this is what old school RPG's are all about in the new game age, this is not a turn base game but fast action slash, bash, dash, and shoot em up action.Beginning of game starts you on a ship and you do a few mundane tasks thats ask from you and then afterwards the ship is attacked by giant sea creature tentacles which sinks the ship. Then next scene is you the main chacter of game waking up on a beach only to find your alone, but not for long, you start meeting others survivors. Some survivors stay to build a village to live in and there are a few who joins your group to explore the island and find other survivors. Each survivor you find will either help you upgrade your Armor/weapons, medical supplies, accessories (boost stats), food (health aids and boost stats) and so on and so on.There are missions, some simple some hard, lots and lots of monsters to kill. There is a very good story, actually 2 stories, and they merge together about midway into game.Have well over 100 hrs into game but I like to grind in a game and this game makes grinding fun, whether its for raising your skills, weapons, or abilities lvls. And the great thing is you still need some of the basic items from begining of game to end of game, so some farming for supplies is needed.Game is fun, graphics are better then expected, and glad that NIS is finally bringing some of their better games over to the USA for us gamers here.

Badly translated.
Excellent game but with a horrible translation, the translation was so bad that NISA had to remade it and make a patch just for it and even with that it don't look so good. Outside of this inconvenience Falcom did a excellent job with this game. I don't want NISA to touch any more Falcom games and I don't want Falcom making any deals with NIS just because the COs are on friendly terms.

If you love games like Nier, Tales of Berseria and Person 5, definitely play this game.
If you love games like Nier, tales of berseria and Person 5, definitely play this game. The graphics is not as good as Nier, but definitely worth playing through the entire game. 60+ hours of playing (easy mode, I like quick rush).Pros1. touching Music, Falcom's Band is super good at making touching and beautiful music.2. Super large Map, with most great elements you can imagine. Also the map is 3D!3. Great story, I have never seen similar story before, impressive and touching. Lots of mysteries in the game. Unlike Horizon Zero Dawn, this story gives me a warm and beautiful story from beginning to end. I felt very relaxed after playing this game.4. Great story + 1, Dana's dream is super creative. Dana'a fighting style is beautiful as well!Cons:1. The storyline is very long, I once felt at first the game was boring with not-that-good graphic. Until from the middle the game the story becomes increasingly interesting with lots of mystery.2. You need to do lots of side request to fully enjoy the game.3. The graphics is not as good as nier automata, but making Ys 8 with a graphics like Nier or Horizon will be super expensive thus I believe it's a good trade-off.

Must Play for JRPG Fans
This game really surprised me. I'm new to the series, but I was sucked in right away by the super fun combat, the great visuals, and wonderful music, and interesting narrative. I was excited to see that at least for the beginning half of the game, the narrative follows a more unique path of being stranded on a strange island, but unfortunately it does eventually dive into cliche JRPG tropes and plot twists later in the game which was a bit disappointing (and just too expected at this point). I wish they focused more on the stranded island bit, finding survivors, building up the home base, and slowly working towards your escape plan from the island, but thankfully this is a very large percentage of the game and that was great.I also wish there was a bit more character development, as some relationships seem to stagnate or never really flesh out as you hope for them too before the credits role, but what is there is nice and well done. All and all, a really fun to play JRPG and one I would recommend to any fan of the genre.
