Molasses is a concentrated source of non haem iron, as such it is valuable in a vegan diet (and any diet that avoids red meat and egg yolks). Also high in other nutrients, and versatile as a cooking ingredient, but be careful of how much you use as the flavour is strong and can be overpowering. It is approx half sucrose, so that bit isn't so healthy!I use molasses in baking, to add to hot chocolate (use less cocoa, and add the nutritional value), peanut sauce, even as a sweetener in home made ice cream (in moderation).I bought this enormous tub on the S&S scheme. Even a heavy user could not get through that by the BBE date - November 2013. Fortunately molasses is a concentrated syrup, and can keep for years, but this really is not the point; clearly Amazon are buying up close to BBE date stock cheap to use for S&S - so not as much of a bargain as you might at first think!

High quality stuff! Luvs it! Could only find molasses from beets in Sweden but this is the genuine cane molasses. 60% sugar content so nice and sweet with good taste.

Smells and tastes strange. Possibly because it's sulphured? Am wishing I'd read the question about sulphuring before I wasted £10 on this. It is nothing like the usual brand we buy (Meridian). Looks like ours will be used for fertiliser too!
