Great product!
I was pretty excited to get this product. It's a great concept, looks great on the shower wall, and it worked like a charm the first time I used it. However, the second time I used it, the sand in the hourglass got stuck... My five minute shower ended up being a 10 minute shower, and all the while I was thinking "man, five minutes really goes a long way." Hoping this was just a fluke, I tried it again the next day--same thing. So all in all, it's a product I want to love, and wish worked, but which ultimately proved to be unreliable.UPDATE 1/11/12: This is long overdue, but I wanted to say I received a replacement unit in a timely manner and it's been going strong ever since! Love this item. It's such a simple device, but it really does help me keep my showers short and efficient!

It will eventually fall off the wall and crack.
This was a great product -- I can't believe how fast five minutes flies by in the shower. It WAS a great product until the suction cup released from the wall. This happened a couple times, but on the fourth time, the timer glass cracked and sand poured out on the shower floor...not such a great product any more. While this is a great product, it's not made to stay on the wall of your shower when you're not in it.

Fell and broke
This worked okay for a few showers. One morning, I went in and discovered it had fallen the four or five feet to the shower floor and broken (the actual sand-containing bit broke, and the sand got wet). Maybe a better suction cup is needed. Not worth the trouble of returning it.

This is annoying, but in and of itself would not have ...
Suction mechanism didn't work for more than a few days before it fell. This is annoying, but in and of itself would not have been a deal-breaker, except for the fact that the hourglass inside is glass behind a plastic cover. The glass broke and the timer doesn't work anymore.

Great
My kids and I really like this thing. It just helps you remember that other people are waiting and not to space out under the shower. It's fallen off the tile once or twice, so I moved it to the glass door and it seems to be stuck pretty solid now.

A simple, highly functional timer that stuck well to our smooth enclosure
Our little stick-on shower timer has been going strong for the better part of a year. It still turns and flows smoothly, and hasn't budged an iota from where it was stuck on. It fell a few times early on, but didn't break, and now seems glued in place as much by mineral deposits and soap scum as by suction. (You: "Ewwwww!" Us: Yeah, well the kids clean this bathroom twice a week. They don't do such an amazing job that you can peek behind the freakin' shower timer, 'k?)The shower/bath gets used at least once a day, often twice, depending on the kids' schedules. It's the main bathroom in the hallway, so the overall traffic count is on the high side. Our shower/bath enclosure surface is that smooth fiberglass from the early 1970s. That said, in the 40-some years since the house was built, the enclosure has developed some surface roughness; it's not totally slick-smooth, like, say, marble. But the main thing is, there's no embossed texture like fake tile squares, faux stone, etc. It's an unabashedly synthetic finish on a thoroughly man-made material. That probably is why our shower timer has stuck so well.I timed this thing when we bought it, and I remember that it was accurate enough. I just went in and timed it again (nearly eight months later) and it ran 4 minutes 50 seconds. It probably hasn't changed.Has it actually helped change the kids' shower habits? Well, in one case yes - although that was the one who'd always taken suspiciously short showers, and now actually sometimes runs the water long enough to maybe get clean - and in the other case, not so much. But that one's a teenager, and that's a whole other thing going on there.UPDATE early 2015: Well, wouldn't you know it, just after I posted the review the darn thing fell off the wall and broke. Fortunately, the plastic outer shell contained the shards of glass, so that was a well-engineered touch. And now it's been break-tested. I'm probably going to order the same one again since I was quite pleased with its performance.

Wonderful!!
Well I had to repurchase this item because the suction isn't great and it broke the first time. But we tied a string around the suction and tied the string to a hook in our shower. We are a family of 5 that all use this and it doesn't get wrecked and wet in the shower, it is visible and accurate. Would highly recommend.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR
I bought two of these so I could have one in both of our showers. Cleaned the surfaces of both showers and ensured that there was no residue before installing each of them (there is a suction cup on the back that sticks to the shower wall or glass door). The first one fell off within the first hour while my daughter was in the shower and the hourglass inside the case shattered. The second one fell off in the other shower a couple of hours later with the same result. Even if you blamed poor surface prep (which was not the case) for them falling off the wall, they were only four feet off the ground and should have survived the fall. Pieces of garbage.
